Re: Some concerns about Sam

Sam is down 3 lbs. :frown: He had a physical and blood work. His back was a bit of a mess so he got adjusted. His molars have some tartar so I got him some Leba III to hopefully soften it and scale it off. I'm not keen to anesthetize him right now and it's not a good time to spend $700. Has anyone t...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

Jean, have you tried any meds for sleep for Mitzi? Benadryl? It's tricky to get food into him with other dogs who DO want to eat around and Sam not wanting to eat in a crate. Yesterday he wouldn't eat all day and hadn't eaten the day before, but I was able to get some treats into him on our walk--a ...

Some concerns about Sam

My buddy is aging and it's got me second guessing myself on how much to be concerned vs how much is just aging. This is my first dog to go through old age with as the responsible adult, so I'm a little insecure or lacking in judgement. I've got him booked for a full physical and bloodwork on Monday. ...

Re: Nerve Sheath Tumor

I am so so sorry to hear this and I'm confused. It seems impossible to believe that so many lumps in one limb could be unrelated. Or is she thinking they are? Does anyone have an explanation for why these lumps/tumors are occurring? In the meantime, can they give him some gabapentin if it's nerve pa...

Re: Free online course: Dog Emotion and Cognition

I listened to him do a free webinar and am Not a fan, personally. It was back when his 'dognition' project was getting a lot of attention. He's an evolutionary anthropologist and strikes me as being not a all dog savvy. He was unable to train his own dog. He's really down on behaviourism, ABA and do...

Re: Advice please... Tail and neuter issues

Was there a bit of a callous there? Rosie has calloused elbows I call it labrador elbow", you know , when it's kind of a bump of skin from lying on the hard floor? She gets black dots that are hairs trying in vain to grow through the callous lump.

Re: Advice please... Tail and neuter issues

Feel free to delete my comment if it makes your life easier. It won't hurt my feelings. I just think it's completely insane for her to think you can't post about your own dog's health on your own wall or that her "vet" opinion from across the globe trumps your own vet and specialists. Then to try to...

Re: Is this puppy TOO good?

Will and Sam are both like that. Will had a bit of stranger danger for a while, but other than that sounds like your description. Natural off switch--it's a good thing. Will can work as long as you're making it fun/interesting/reinforcing, but if there's nothing to do , he settles. Traits I sought o...

Re: barking to go out when they don't need to go out.

Hmm, maybe I'll try putting him to bed at 10 or 11pm in Griffin or Skylar's room with a dog bed, but not in a crate. I'd still like for him to be able to move around a bit as he is old and arthritic. Rosie is now having audible farts that freak her out and we've had the odd mystery piece of poo lyin...

Re: barking to go out when they don't need to go out.

He is sound, not lame, can still walk a 5km, he's just slow. He isn't seeming to be having GI issues as he has at times in the past. He has lost some hearing. Between being somewhat deaf, slow on walks and driving us nuts all evening and up in the night, I am not enjoying him. I find myself annoyed ...

barking to go out when they don't need to go out.

Sam is going to drive me mad. During the day, he only asks to go out every 6 hrs or so. I'd say he goes out after breakfast to have a poo and then often not again until mid to late afternoon. In the evenings though, he is asking to go out hourly from about 10pm on. I think he partly wants me to go t...

Re: new van! Bella doesn't like it :(

I only skimmed the replies, I'm sure most of these have been suggested but... I spent a fair amount of time hanging out on the floor of my van (seats were out) on the way home from Colorado with Will. I was amazed by how much I felt the vibration through the floor. It was intense! I don't know if th...

Re: Protein sources for joints

Red meat eats the joint? That seems like a rather bizarre claim. I haven't come across anything that shows one protein source to be better than another for joints in dogs. I would want to see that substantiated before I'd eliminate it completely.

Re: Got any good pics of your dogs you wouldn't mind..

It's for my dog training biz, so cute, happy, well looked after dogs looking "well behaved," or smart, or like they are attuned to their human would be good. My training philosophy and methods emphasize positive methods that are fun, so I especially like photos where it looks like a dog and human ar...

Re: Got any good pics of your dogs you wouldn't mind..

I am truly the worst photographer. The only nice photos I have are of rally or agility and i'm selling pet dog services, so they don't really work for this purpose. All my other photos are red eye or my dogs being dorks and are taken on my phone.

Re: Advice please... Tail and neuter issues

If you have 2 vet opinions, why the need for the specialist right now? Would it maybe change your course of action? In Canada vets seem to prefer Cartrophen over Adequan, so we've done Cartrophen, but it's really reasonably priced. It seemed to make a big difference for Sam, so I would lean toward d...
