So weird. I could have sworn I posted in this thread. She sounds great! Alex is so cute, I loved him when we met a few years ago.

That's weird. Crate training is just as in vogue in the USA at least among R+ dog trainers.

Re: MP having lots of seizures :(

I'm glad you have a close relationship with your vets and are in good hands. I think at her age, or in any situation where a firm diagnosis won't change the treatment plan, not knowing is kind of nice, because it allows you to think maybe it's not a tumor, maybe it's some kind of old lady thing and ...

Re: MP having lots of seizures :(

I'm so sorry, Nana. Seizures really suck. My only experience with them within my family was with Ben. For him, it was really sedating (also super effective for nerve pain), but within a month or maybe 6 weeks of an increase, he'd have a noticeable decrease in the side effects. It would certainly see...

Re: "Cyst" that keeps refilling :S

Rosie has a weird warty-cysty thing the refills down towards the base of her tail. She is so incredibly hairy though, that I tend not to notice unless I go looking for it. I hate skin stuff.

Re: Matted fur helppppp!!!

I'm no expert. The coat king will cut the coat--even some top coat, so you need to decide of that's ok with you. I would decide based on how much I was getting out with the comb and detangler. My initial strategy, beyond shampoo and conditioner with HV dryer blow outs, is to sit on the floor in the ...

Re: Stomatitis- any experience?

Hmm, well I'm very glad his symptoms are subsiding. I hope he's enjoying the extra food.Often steroids make them ravenous and gain weight. I had to increase Sam's food by a lot when he had kidney failure. Weight was falling off him and he got boney. I think that's typical of kidney failure from what...

Re: Matted fur helppppp!!!

The coat king is hard for me to use without hurting Rosie, so if Natsu already dislikes brushing, probably a good thing to stick with Ice on Ice and a greyhound comb. It's easiest to pick out mats and not hurt them with a comb vs a rake. And yeah, Coat Kings aren't cheap. I bought one out of deperat...

Re: Matted fur helppppp!!!

I agree that the furminator is the wrong tool for her coat. For getting through matted/felted undercoat I spray or rub in a really intense detangler (maybe Ice on Ice?) that makes the hair really slippery/slick and then I work it out with a greyhound comb while holding my fingers between the dogs sk...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

Last night was crazy old dog night. I go to do Sam's fluids-warm the solution, find him and get him to come lie on a dog bed in front of the tv with me. I get the needle in and get it running when Rosie lets out a cough which startles Sam (a new thing since his hearing is going, or maybe just new be...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

A crazy, scary, sad roller coaster indeed. I'm glad I have you gals to talk it through with and to ask about diet and fluids and such. He has now eaten quite a few home cooked meals in a row and though he is definitely old and slow, doesn't really appear pained or nauseous right now. This evening he...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

A vet called to give me Sam's blood results at 9am- that was fast! His BUN and creatinine came down, but are still in well into stage 4. His SDMA--a new test-- went UP from 34 to 50 both way high. The vet I saw really didn't know what to make of that, but suggested we should go by how he seems clini...

Re: Advice please... Tail and neuter issues

giardia :bah: I don't know enough about hip dysplasia or your contract to know. My questions are: Is there *any* chance his hips will change enough with age such that they wouldn't OFA as dysplastic at 2? If not, I would want the vets to write that out in a crystal clear way. Did your contract say y...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

My understanding is that if they do this 3-4 day flush with IV fluids, some dogs numbers improve significantly and the dog feels better and then may have months of good time where they are feeling decent and can just do fluids as a short subcutaneous infusion over in the evening. We re-drew blood to...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

I am anxious about the decisions that lie ahead. How long and how much do I do? There is a price paid for having him confined and on an infusion. He acts like he is being punished when I send him to the ex-pen to hook him back up. I'm also not doing anything with anyone else, because I'm sitting nea...

Re: No more dogs on my bed, ever!

I liked the system I had with Rosie and sam, they "asked" to come up on beds or couches by sitting and looking at me and i could choose if I wanted to invite them up. No dogs ever slept on the bed or wanted to, it was more if I was flaking out on the bed in the evening or on a weekend. It was never ...

Re: Some concerns about Sam

I'm not sure what to do about his diet since he's not really wanting to eat much. I gave him cerenia last night and he still only at a bit of dehydrated. He had been eating Acana Ranchlands or Grasslands kibble (with some fresh additions) for a few years because that's what worked for his gut. A cou...

His teeth haven't been x-rayed in a handful of years when he had his last dental. Bloodwork should be back tonight I hope so we'll see what it shows.
