Re: Licorice Recurrent UTI

Aw, I'm sorry.
My thoughts have already been suggested by others already. I sure hope something works whether it's keeping her on a low dose of antibiotics or a longer course or different drug.

Re: Takes all kinds

yay for a new friend who appreciates your wonderful dog. The long nosed dogs were an acquired taste for me-- kind of like coffee. I didn't like the look of them at all initially, but as I became a dognerd, the pointies became some of my favourites. Over time I started liking the look more and ...

Re: i've made a big mess

Yes! No tossing. And I wouldn't keep food near your bed and train this at bedtime or Pi has an extra reason to guard the bed. Train them separately to get on and off on cue. Train it together only when they know the drill well. If and when you feel like they've got it and Pi is anticipating Gringo c...

Re: i've made a big mess

This doesn't sound like a Big Mess to me. If it is stressful and you are in overthinking mode--which I totally get--just use whatever management works whether it's rotating or everyone sleeps in crates and leave it for a while. Then when you feel like working on this, train it at a non-bedtime time....

Re: Growly Guardy Pi

You wrote it out, I just highlighted it. Hope it helps. I always see things better once I write it out and think in terms of antecedent->behaviour->consequence. It's easier when you are looking/training from the outside and not living it too. When it's your own dogs you just go "stop being a...

Re: Growly Guardy Pi

So, Gringo's arrival to the bed/bedroom predicts the other dogs getting kicked off the bed. Lather rinse repeat and you have a dog who doesn't appreciate Gringo's arrival. Make Gringo showing up predict GOOD things for Pi.

So are there more diseases other than rabies to worry about being transmitted to a dog?

Re: Tail amputation

I don't know enough about it to have any judgement. I don't think I would be looking to spend more money on vet bills or doing anything else that would cause him significant pain and stress at this time. With the crappy luck you've been having lately, I'd probably be paranoid about complications! Th...

ideas for helping Will transition to/from kibble/raw

Will is primarily raw fed. I use kibble (acana or Orijen) for training and for days I forget to defrost or if I'm going out of town. He has normal stools when eating raw and if I put him onto kibble his stools are yellow pudding  I've added digestive enzymes on kibble days and that doesn'...

I'm a big fan of the Sure Fit harness by premier. They are like $15 on amazon- well for me, I can't buy them locally. I've tried a variety of harnesses and always go back to them for fit and comfort.

co-enzyme q-10 for the oldies?

On somewhat of a whim I bought some co-enzyme q-10 when I was buying fish oil from Monica Segal's site. Sam is doing some strange things lately like eating paper from the recycle basket at night and almost seeming to get lost in the yard at times. Though I'm not sure if he was "lost" or something wa...

Well it's good to have a real diagnosis, it sure seems to be a rotten thing for him to have. I hope with all my heart that he's about to outgrow it. I hope you also happen upon a big pile of money. I shudder to think what your vet bills must have been these last months. Hang in there.

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

So is today x-ray day or you're deferring that til after a course of doxy? As an aside- I don't think I would want an aggressive course of doxy with negative results for TBD thus far and without at the very least ruling out pano since pano, I thought, was the most likely cause of all this pain and l...

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

I honestly don't know whether it's a good thing or bad that he doesn't have lyme. It would just be nice to have an actual answer and be able to effectively treat him at this point. I'm so confused about the lyme results. why did your vet think it was positive and start him on doxy? Your vet is not D...

Will the x-ray tell you if it is pano or let you rule it out? (I know you've answered this, I don't remember though. I feel like maybe the answer was no it would not and that's why you hadn't opted to do an x-ray?)

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

I am totally confused by the way the lyme results are given and your vet saying it's lyme when the results say it's negative. Isn't less than 1 less than 1 ? whether you are ranging up to 10 or up to 10 000 ? I'm missing something there. Something smells very fishy with the "my vet doesn't keep reco...

She can call the clinic and have them look up her dog's records if she doesn't know what the dog's diagnosis was or what the treatment was!
