Re: Cat question

Thanks Emma's Mom. Tony turns 14 right after the new year, so he's no spring chicken, but he's been well taken care of food wise. I added pumpkin to his food and gave smaller amounts. He hasn't thrown up since. This vet peeked in his mouth with a micro flashlight, said he was missing teeth and had a...

Cat question

So our cat 13 yr old has been throwing up now and then. Took him to a vet close to us that has seen our tortoise. Did bloodwork came back normal. We feed the cat meal that Just for Dogs makes, which is fish and chicken, good food. So this vet recommended we change his diet to hydrolized purina cat k...

Re: Talk to me about skin/allergy problems

I'll jump into an old thread. Lady has been on Apoquel for over a year now. She is miserable if we run out. Her belly becomes beet red. Environmental testing said she was allergic to Bermuda smut - some kind of fungus? We have patches of Bermuda grass , which she will lay in. So We think she is alle...

Yucca Root

I'm asking considering our cat, but I suppose this could affect a dog too. We buy the cat food that Just for Dogs makes, all we buy from them since Lady is allergic to just about everything. It is a cooked product made of chicken thighs, Pacific cod, chicken hearts & liver, sardines. But it also has...

Re: I hate tumors

Poor Max, I'm so sorry your going through this trial. We did Neoplasene with Taffy and wouldn't do it again if presented with the same situation again. She had a tumor on the roof of her mouth which I discovered when looking for the cause of bad breath she had. And is often the case by the time you ...

Re: What is with this dog, hopeless potty train

I think you are right about confining, more frequent trips outside. We've learned his signal when he's in his crate and needs to go - he turns around, does a little dance. I've got pee pads, I'll try that. And rehoming is absolutely out of the question, they have really bonded. Plus he's a doll. We ...

What is with this dog, hopeless potty train

I am really questioning the background of this poodle we adopted. He pees wherever he is when the urge strikes. He let loose a full bladder on my bed just a few minutes ago, I'd stood up to grab a book, sat back down on my bed and it was soaked, as was I at that point - and mind you he's been in and...

New dog, new problems, potty training

I've been too busy lately to post all that's been going on here. We finally let Smokey go a little over a month ago, he'd gotten to the point he couldn't hardly walk, had to be carried in and out, couldn't relieve himself without help, so we decided to let him go. We thought at that time Lady would ...

Re: viruses, villi, and vaccination

About all we can do is hope her body heals over time. She is doing gluten free diet, has constant pain in one spot enough that she's been on pain meds. It's probably damaged villi in her intestine that causes her pain. Unfortunately where she lives her doctors are poor so that doesn't help her.

Re: viruses, villi, and vaccination

I don't know about the vax issue, but my sister has celiac disease. Hers started years ago with a tropical sprue diagnosis and how she would have got that we had no idea. That was a virus I think, she had treatment for it and the celiac resolved, now it's back.

Yep, plus they feel awful sorry for themselves. She's still quite sleepy but whining has stopped just keeping her comfortable. She has a drain in a rear leg which the cone doesn't keep her from licking, so give her a spritz of itchy spray now and then.

Lady surgery

So Lady hurt herself today- took off chasing a cat out of the back yard but ran into a pipe by a bush. Opened a gash on her right leg. She spent the day with the vet having stitches and a drain put in. She is in a cone, not happy. She is whining, crying. I just picked her up at 5, been home little o...

Re: Do you have advice for Snevinters diet (after spleen removed)?

Sorry to read about all your going through. I don't know at this point if I could call myself much of an expert to offer advice. This time it's me with the cancer. I was diagnosed with a neuroendrocine tumor about the first of the year. I was supposed to have had my spleen and possibly part of my pa...

We home cook. We're just hoping maybe we can identify food that might be triggers for her. Worth a try. Poor dog these issues probably contributed to her ending up in a shelter. We work hard trying to keep her comfortable.

I'm Ready to Jump

We just got the results back from another food sensitivity test from Dr. Dodds for Lady. At this point I'm ready to find me a tall building and jump. This one shows more food sensitivity than the first test. 24 foods were tested and several gave strong reactions, avoid. Only lamb, goat, peanuts and ...

Re: Diatomaceous earth in rice to kill bugs

Oh gosh, never thought about canned goods labels. We took all the drawers out, washed all with a bleach solution. It seems were reinfecting with new items. Will have to put more items in the freezer, rice packages are the worst with tiny little black bugs that turn into moths

Re: Something going on with Smokey?

He probably has a degenerative spine condition. I took a look at the links Lisa. There was one with photos, but they called those straight leg GS, their back legs didn't bend. Smokeys back end sinks down, although sometimes he walks fully extended. Not sure it is if he's fatigued or his lower back g...

Diatomaceous earth in rice to kill bugs

Anybody mix the food quality DE in your dry rice? I remember Sabine telling me a long time ago about putting it in the rice when I bought big bags, but I don't remember how much DE to use, if there's a formula of how much to mix in. We are having a really hard time lately with bugs in the bags of ri...

Did rice and hamburger for a few meals. He never repeated any soft poop. He had to have another bath to clean his back side since I started this thread. He pooped in the tub again. He sleeps so much I don't know if he's pooping as much as he used to,probably not. Bill shaved his rear and back legs t...

Re: What is she doing? Chewing Paws. Habit, boredom, allergies?

I thought I'd comment on this older thread. We've decided that the paw chewing is her self soothing herself like a baby would - she's still doing it, it's before she falls asleep. Sometimes she will stop if we say stop chewing. What works great if she happens to be up on the sofa doing it, I'll star...

Something going on with Smokey?

Poor old Smoke he's showing his age, 15, Austrian Shepherd maybe. The last episode we had with him was the bad case of diarrhea. The vet mentioned then about a condition that Shepherds have with their back end going down. Smoke sinks down in his back legs. Sometimes he walks full up, he can have a s...

Neighbors dogs removed by city

We think our next door neighbors have had their dogs confiscated. They had several, a boxer and 3 or 4 small dogs, which might exceed the number the city of Los Angeles allows. LA has an ordinance against excess barking, these dogs barked just about anytime I worked out in the yard, plus barking at ...

I'm late to this thread, but I'll add my two cents. I like that it's easy to post on FB, but I'm not on it like I used to which was a lot. We,have gotten into family fights on it, so I've unplugged from FB and try to stay away from it. So now I read the forum more, and with a couple challenging dogs...

Re: Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

Diarrhea started about 3 hours after the Gabapentin dose. Also it was a low dose. Too much of it immobilizes him, I'd taken a 100 mg capsule, opened it up and split half of it into an empty vitamin capsule. So I don't know if that was the cause. Only thing we thought was maybe an old batch of food. ...

Re: Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

He may have not got too dehydrated. We have raised platforms for water. The bowl he likes for water is an old heavy ceramic mixing bowl that I thinks keeps the water cool. He would walk around and take deep drinks kept me busy refilling bowls.

Yes we took him in. Vet said heart, lungs were good, she didn't think he had stomach cramps. She took him in the back to examine him, she said he put up quite a fight, so that's probably good. Gave us flagyl, packets of FortiFlora. Plus cans of prescription diets, Hills Urgent Care. We left him whil...

Re: Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

He was still having the runs yesterday, made several trips out to the yard. He is drinking water. My son got him to eat a couple bites of turkey last night. He wouldn't eat out of a bowl, but took hand feeding of cooked turkey and two bites was all he'd take. So don't know what that was about, maybe...

Re: Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

He just had another bout of diarrhea. Runny watery. Yellow colored. Some of it was orange yesterday. We thought maybe that was carrots coming out? And this time his tail was raised a bit which looked suspicious, luckily he got outside in time to relive himself.
