Re: Max is fading and I don't know how to handle it.

Oh Ashley, my heart is breaking for you. It's so SO hard, especially when it's a gradual decline and you continue to adapt as things worsen. Quality of life is so subjective, and your quality of life while managing Max's needs is an important consideration too. Whatever and whenever you decide, I kn...

Re: 13th annual “What are you going to do with your dogs” thread

I don't know if I had any goals for Henry last year, but we had a great year - lots of classes, including tricks class which he absolutely loved. He earned his novice, intermediate, and advanced Trick Dog titles! With the seizures being triggered by excitement, all training has come to a halt. Class...

Re: Probable stroke

Oh Ashley, how distressing. Oliver had a seizure that blinded him on the day I let him go. Since I was planning to send him over the bridge sometime that week, I did't wait to see if it would come back, but I remember the distress. I put a leash on him to keep him from getting too lost. It was so ha...

So many hugs for you, Emily. It's never easy, but with some dogs it's just so difficult. Thank you for sharing him with us; I'm so glad that I got to know him a little through your stories and photos. He was so clearly a special companion.

I missed this when you posted it, but hooray for continued shrinkage! I'm glad that the anesthesia was easier on him this time. Fingers crossed for those liver levels.

Re: Cancer clinical trial

fingers crossed for better liver numbers tomorrow! Oliver had ALP through the roof the entire time I had him. I tested for everything under the sun and we never found what was causing it but it also never seemed to affect him. Hopefully this is a blip, but if it isn't my fingers are crossed that Max...

Moe is being euthanized this weekend. Despite medication (prozac) and work with a veterinary behaviourist, his aggression has not abated and has, in fact, become increasingly unpredictable and frequent. He has gone after dogs and people in his current foster home, despite every effort to manage his ...

Did he offer an option of a brace? I know that some ODO dogs have had good luck with that.

Are you connected with Claire on FB? She went through cruciate tears with her previous Weims and used to be a regular poster on the CCL yahoo group. She was a great source of info.

Interesting article, thanks for that link!

I can't wrap my head around someone that educated honestly believing that highly processed kibble with low quality ingredients is the best choice because it's made by a big company, or that reading ingredient labels is bad. That's just crazy talk!

Re: Grain Free Foods and Heart Disease?

I thought Dr. Dodds perspective was a good one - we need to consider why we make the feeding choices we do and remember that there's a LOT more research to be done on this. I think we all need to remember her final point: "As we keep coming back to, every dog is an individual, and we believe that in...

Re: Not sure what to do - ailing best friend

You're not the odd woman out regarding going to any length. It depends on the dog and the situation, of course, but I don't see myself ever going to the lengths your bf does with his dog. That wouldn't be practical for me and for most dogs I've had over my life I don't think it would make them happy...

Fish based foods always smell awful to me. Weird, because I love fish, but fish dog food is gross smelling.

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

I have a dog in my Senior program that has chronic pancreatitis. We finally switched him to prescription food because the episodes were becoming more frequent and lasting longer, and it's helped. You know I fought that one as long as I could, but if that's what it takes to help him, then that's what...

Re: I want...maybe.

A friend of mine lost her Springer a few months ago and is posting field spaniel puppy pics all over IG, so I'm currently smitten with them. My very first birthday present was a cocker, so I'll always have a soft spot for them, but I've seen so many messed up cockers that I'm a bit gun shy. Not sure...

Oh Emily, I'm sad to read this. I remember when Oliver was losing muscle in his hind end, to the point the he couldn't stand up long enough to eat his meals, rugs and runners all over the place to help his traction, and the increased sleep. If he doesn't seem to be in any pain, I'd spend some time t...
