Re: Can I give scrips away?

I don’t know if a rescue could take them, but after Orion died, I found someone on the dog cancer Facebook group I was a member of that was struggling to pay for meds and donated everything of Orion’s to her and her Shepherd that was fighting the same cancer. Flat rate shipping was only like 8 bucks...

Re: Heartworm treatment

I KNOW! These stupid ticks are everywhere now. I had a dog come in that lives in downtown Naperville and he had a huge tick right in the middle of his head! From sniffing normal bushes in the middle of downtown Naperville! Insanity! And I do believe the bugs are becoming resistant to the preventativ...

Re: Heartworm treatment

I’m so sorry Connie. I’ve seen way too many cases of heartworm in this area come into our clinic. Most are adopted from down South and brought up here, but many have lived here for their lives and then all of a sudden come up with heartworm. I think our climate is changing too much and bugs are more...

When you're heart tells you it's time, the right dog just falls into your lap

Heartbreaking does not even begin to describe losing 3 babies in 13 months. Apollo we lost in March of 2016, Orion was next in August of 2016, and finally Jasper left us March of 2017. We were shattered and absolutely inconsolible. Our house was empty and our children were gone. Apollo was Mom's dog...

Yes her vocalization could and most likely is definitely the anesthetic. My Shepherd was always extremely vocal and moaned and groaned and cried all night everytime after a anesthetic procedure. Basically he was saying "man am I HIGH!!" lol

And now we lose another. On March 24th we put our 20 year old Jasper to rest. He was barely 4 pounds and down to 6% kidney function. That's three babies in a little over a year now...please no more...

Re: My boys are gone...

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I can't believe that next week is already a year since Apollo left us, and my Ori has been gone six months...the pain is still so raw. I still cry for them every day. I don't feel like I'm ever going to recover from the loss of Orion, it was such a slap in the...

My boys are gone...

Hi there, I know I don't post very often, but I lurk A LOT. I lost both Apollo and Orion in 2016, and I'm just now starting to be able to say their names with out falling apart... Apollo we lost March 2, 2016. He was a Rott/Shepherd mix, he was 16 years old. He had starting having seizures out of th...

I was told the food is basically repackaged Kirkland (Costco brand) food. gentlegiantnews.com To give you an idea of the kind of people Burt and Tracy Ward are and how they treat their dogs and potential adopters. Besides charging $1,000+ per dog, they always seem to have puppies of all sorts of bre...

Re: No more dogs on my bed, ever!

I'm right there with you. My dogs have beds and are allowed to sleep on the couch. I hate it when my comforter and sheets are covered in dog hair. I want my bed nice and clean and fresh when I get in it. The only time Remus sleeps on the bed with me is when I'm sick. My bed is a dog free zone, and I...

Re: barking to go out when they don't need to go out.

We went through pretty much the exact same thing with my 16 year old Apollo. He would pace and pant and go up and down the stairs all night. He would cry and ask to be let out 2-4 times a night and then just take two steps off the back deck and stand there. It was driving us all insane. We knew that...

He's having a full blown cluster now. They most likely won't stop until he gets IV Pheno and Vallium. Best of luck tonight, I hope you both get some sleep.

Re: Eddie - grand mal seizures

At this point I would seriously consider taking him in and getting him started on IV phenobarbital. It's just going to take way too long to get the loading dose done with pills and get his Pheno levels in his blood up to a level where it's actually stopping seizure activity. More than one seizure in...

Re: vaccinations timed with a spay

We spayed a 2 pound 4 ounce 'teacup' yorkie last week and she bounced up after surgery just fine, and she had teeth extracted too. Make sure they are definitely putting her on IV fluids during her procedure, and with smaller dogs we wait and give the morphine after they are awake and semi alert.

Re: vaccinations timed with a spay

Most vets I know will not give vaccines while a dog is under for a big procedure because of the concern of the dog having a vaccine reaction while under anesthesia.

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Stupid question...have you ever fasted him? Just given him a full 24 hours off of food to give his stomach and intestines a break and a chance to reset themselves. Usually when Orion has a GI flare up and has bad episodes of diarrhea I take him off food for 24 hours. Nothing. No meds, no supplements...

Re: MP Keeps Breaking: Tooth this time! :(

Yeah, dental X-rays are definitely a under anesthesia procedure. The dental X-ray machine is very different from a normal X-Ray. It is a tube shaped thing that literally has to be like a 1/2 inch away from the tooth. I actually just assisted on a broken molar extraction last week. We took X-rays bef...

He can't do fish oil. I got him a bottle of that Sea Pet with Omega 3 and vitamin E when the first fistulas started years ago and OH MY god did it make him worse!!! Explosive diarrhea, super oily, itchy, hot skin. It was so bad...so bad...he can't really handle any supplements, glycoflex he did fine...

Re: Orion not doing so great, fistulas, thyroid concerns, cr

Have you considered that the metacam may be compromising his gut and flairing the fistula? It did for Max. Gosh I hope not. Metacam is the only thing that has worked so far for his arthritis/joint pain, and it's working fantastically. He's been on the metacam for a while now, since Christmas when h...
