Grain Free Foods and Heart Disease?

Interesting article from Tufts Vets school the current concern about a pet's diet and the possible connection to a form of heart disease. Link here: http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/06/a-broken-heart-risk-of-heart-disease-in-boutique-or-grain-free-diets-and-exotic-ingredients/ I've been feeding my...

Re: Galliprant

Interesting information - thanks for sharing. My 10 year old toy poodle was prescribed Rimadyl about a year ago to help with pain from a subluxing patella. I also put her on Cosequin at the same time and she has done extremely well. At her annual exam last week her vet recommended we discontinue the...

Sorry to be slow to respond but had to get through the holidays and regroup. Thanks to everyone for the replies. The vet did do a culture and sensitivity and, not surprisingly, the ear infection was caused by staph intermedius. It was a strain of staph that was resistant to most of the commonly pres...

Re: Apoquel

Original poster here. My dog has been taking Apoquel for about 15 months. In addition to the Apoquel, she takes benedryl twice daily. It was great initially but as time went on she began experiencing more itching, licking, hot spots, staph infections, etc. The most recent problem is ear infections. ...

Lots Of "New To Me" Dry Foods

I was just browsing through Chewy.com and noticed a number of dry dog foods I have not heard of before including: First Mate Great Life Health Extension Horizon KASIKS Leonard Powell Signature Lotus Natural Planet Nulo Pioneer Naturals Spring Naturals Under The Sun Many are described as manufactured...

My little toy poodle, Trinnie, has terrible allergies. Her vet thinks it is most likely seasonal allergies rather than food related. She's had a couple of "allergy shots" (Convenia) for her skin inflammation and two rounds of Prednisone. She gets relief during the two weeks she takes the Prednisone ...

Not Good News

I read that Purina has bought Merrick and Castor and Pullox. I don't care about Merrick, never fed it to my dogs but Castor and Pullox seems to have a better reputation. I suppose Purina will take care of that.

Re: Breaking up with the vet

When I got my current dog in April I changed vets. The previous vet was okay but rather distant and just didn't give me the warm fuzzies. I had been going to this practice, primarily for the groomer, for a number of years but there had been changes in ownership and "things" just didn't feel the same...

Kidney Disease

I'm mainly a lurker here but I check in often and learn a lot. My miniature poodle, age 11, has had a heart murmur/congestive heart failure for several years. He's been doing fine on his meds but I noticed him panting the last week or two and that was something new. So, to the vet we went today. She...

Re: More toxic treats made in China -- sweet potato this tim

My little guy loves treats, especially chicken jerky. The first thing I do when shopping for him is check to see where the product is made. And, yes, many bags do not say where they are made but list an American distributor. Very misleading, IMO.

Re: soo...now that innova has gone bad lol, what to do?

Question: then why stop feeding Natura products? Not to be confrontational here, I really don't mean to be snarky, but why the double standard? I understand you are implying that once P&G takes over production of Innova products we can expect them to be no better than the brands I mentioned (and it...

Pchan, yes I'm aware of previous discussions regarding blue buffalo and merrick. I don't plan to switch him completely to these brands but may add them to the rotation as long as the ingredient listing is acceptable.

<t>My guy is on canned food. I bought a case of EVO 95% chicken a couple of weeks ago. Once it's gone I don't think I'll be buying anymore. The only local store where I can buy premium foods also carries NV and Wellness. I'm trying my little guy on NV Prairie Homestyle chicken stew which he seems to...

Re: WERUVA

Thanks everyone for your responses. I had discovered the food was made in Thailand so marked it off my list. Their website claims the factory in Thailand is "family owned" and no sourcing of product from China, etc. Sometimes companies just "protest too much" and that makes me wary.

<t>I noticed there was a thread about Weruva food a couple of years ago. I'm thinking of trying my mini-poodle on their canned variety. <t>Thanks for the replies. I hope we don't have to deal with a low salt or salt free diet but I'll be sure and ask the questions you suggest re: percentages if it comes to that. RobinS, the vet did not mention the "grade" of the murmur. He is taking Lasix twice daily and the other once. Thus far he ...

<t>Based on the good information here I've been feeding my 8 year old mini-poodle Innova EVO chicken and turkey for the past few years. He does love it. Somewhere I heard that giving your pet filtered water would help with the tear staining. I have an apricot mini-poodle who has fairly bad staining and I've tried this. It does seem to help but does not totally eliminate the problem.

<t>My miniature poodle has been on Revolution since he was a puppy. <t>My dog, Jazz, is a six year old miniature poodle. He has never had his teeth cleaned. Brookeland. I suppose you are camping at Sam Rayburn Lake? You're in the Big Thickett of the East Texas pineywoods. Watch out for ticks and snakes and other assorted critters. That's a pretty area though.

<t>My mini poodle can hear the slightest rumble of thunder...before I can hear it even. He immediately heads for the bedroom and gets on my (our) bed. I guess he feels safe there. Wish I had seen this before I ordered the cans of by Nature Organics chicken that was on sale. Although I do wish there was some way I could order only a few and a variety to see which, if any, my guy would eat. He is rather picky.
