Fruit and Pee

Two of my dogs have had urine tests that came back with high ph, and my vet said that she actually sees that often with dogs who are on grain-free kibble and suggested a diet change. These two dogs are eating approximately 50% Fromm Lamb and Lentil kibble, 25% Honest Kitchen Embark, and 25% random t...

Re: Apoquel

My alleric-to-EVERYTHING dog has been on Apoquel for about a year and a half. She is 11 and has so far had no negative effects that I have noticed or that bloodwork has shown, and it really has been a "miracle" drug for us. That said, I realize there are risks and worry about them, but we had nothin...

Costco has alligator dog treats sometimes! Yum?

We've already tried beaver. :( Man, that was some stinky, greasy meat!

Chicken Feather Meal?

I just read about Royal Canin Anallergenic, which looks pretty nasty: Corn starch, hydrolyzed poultry by-products aggregate, coconut oil, soybean oil, natural flavors, potassium phosphate, powdered cellulose, calcium carbonate, sodium silico aluminate, chicory, L-tyrosine, fructooligosaccharides, fi...

8 mo female Rottie - with her tail!

petey.JPG I've got another "impossible-to-rehome" dog in my house. This time it's an 8 month old Rottie who has spent her life hidden in an apartment because her family wasn't allowed to have dogs. Her first couple of days she was aggressive in her kennel (lunging, growling, snarling) and bit me a ...

I liked the matin belgische trekhond too. I need a time machine so I can go get one!

I think the Boxers looked fantastic with their longer noses. Shame about the ears. :(

Re: Please help me rescue a dog in need

Have you contacted a boarding kennel? When I pulled my Casey from the shelter I couldn't foster him so I boarded him while I looked for someone to take him. The kennel owner gave me a hugely discounted rate otherwise I'd never have been able to afford it. Best of luck on your foster search. I know h...

More eye trouble, different dog :(

I took Suki to the vet last week because I wanted to put her on meds for spay incontinence again and while the vet was doing the exam, she found black lesions on both retinas. She was puzzled because normally those spots are part of a fungal infection, but Suki doesn't have Valley Fever. Even more w...

Re: What grosses you out the most?

I'll never forget the time Reese ate a pile of his own poop and then puked it up at my feet shortly after. Raw piggy feet are probably the grossest thing to me. I used to give them to my dogs years ago and the heft of the damn things bothered me, though not as much as the way the skin felt. I...

Re: Quality non-Diamond dog foods?

I am so disappointed that Wellness is involved in this recall. I didn't realize that any of their stuff came from a barfy Diamond plant, ugh. Anyway, I rotate Orijen, Acana, and Wellness Core for my dogs who eat kibble. Neither of them are very active and one is like me in that he looks at food and ...

Hm, I'm not sure but I don't think so. The vet said Kiki was born with the eye deformity and it's right about middle age that the problem usually develops. :(

Robin, she's on Latanoprost twice and Pred Acetate once a day. The vet said as time goes on there will be a long list of meds for her to take but fortunately she's a good sport about drops in her eyes!

Squinting one eye?

Does anyone have any ideas for why a dog would squint one eye? About once or twice a week, always in the evenings or at night, I notice Kiki is squinting her right eye. The vet can't find anything wrong with the eye itself so I asked her to look for an underlying issue. Bloodwork showed that one liv...

Casey Found a Home!

I was just writing this long post and somehow managed to lose it, so here goes round two! After a year and a half in a kennel and absolutely no potential adopters, my husband agreed to let Casey come home to live with us. I was excited but nervous because Casey didn't get along with other dogs, so I...

<r>Pit bulls being housed alone makes sense but I had no idea they were more prone to the kennel crazies. Casey has dodged that bullet so far, but he'd definitely have to be housed alone because he doesn't like other dogs. I'm sorry it didn't work out for Daisy. <E>:(</E><br/> <br/> Thanks for the l...
