<t>Siris is about 7 - not slowing down a bit either, except for this whole elbow dysplasia thing. She still acts like a goofy pup though. I got her when she was about a year and a half.<br/> <br/> My cat Senor Snuggles is about 5 or so - he's been with me just over a year.<br/> <br/> Both are from r...

Re: Siris post surgery

<t>Thanks guys.. She's doing all lot better. After about a week of pottying her on the front lawn, she can now make it around the block (at a real slow pace) - it's kind of weird having a laid back dog, she can't bound up to people and other dogs with her usual enthusiasm - heh. I think she's also l...

Siris post surgery

<t>Here's my girl after her elbow surgery - Fragmented Coronoid Process was her issue - surgery went well (though not in terms of me forking out $2K for it!) She's recovering well - surgery was July 18 and she's on very limited exercise for the next 2 weeks... carrying her up and down my stairs is a...

Re: Uh-oh -- Rudy won't put weight on his left front leg...

<t>I had a similar issue with Siris where out of the blue after no real crazy exercise she wouldn't put any weight on her right front leg. It would happen a couple of times a month and then within a day or so she'd be back to normal..They thought it was soft tissue, I managed with Metacam and reduce...

<t>Greetings Ola. I'm in Toronto too! Cool to have another Torontonian on the board. I'm Andria and my pooch is Siris, an almost 7 year old pitbull whippet mix, who I adopted about 6 years ago from a no kill rescue up in Tottenham (she was originally a stray at the Caledon pound). Hope you stick aro...

Re: sigh ... getting tired of 'Leash Reactive'

<t>Well, I'm not a clicker trainer and I don't use 100% positive reinforcement - it never worked for Siris. It may have, had I continued with it for months and months or maybe years, but honestly, she is too high maintenance as it is for me to have done that route. I don't think I use harsh methods,...

<t>Heh heh. I know what you mean. I see it all with our obedience school clients. He was awesome with us but we'd hand him ...

Re: Q for owners of high-energy dogs

<t>Siris is high energy and high maintenance. Spazz dog with separation anxiety. Yeah, I have no life either. Couple that with a law that says she can't be off leash ever and I have no yard. Fun times. We walk. A lot. Sometimes when no ones looking I'll try running. In my downtown ghetto of a neighb...

Re: Breed of dog you will always have?

I would say pitties but unless I move out of Ontario or we overturn this legislation that ain't gonna happen since they'll eventually be extinct here :( So, I think rescue mutts is probably my best answer. I love the terrier personality so probably something in a terrier.

<t>Just wanted to add Calypso, that's that a really cool idea to write an article about it and have it on hand at an obedience school. I wish we would do that at ours. (Well, I guess I could take the initiative and do it, but finding the time is hard.) I know when I first got Siris if I had had acce...

Re: What do you love and hate about retractable leashes?

<t>Agree with pretty much all the cons and will add that I bought one shortly after I got Siris and wasn't paying too much attention one day when she happened to a see a very tempting looking squirrel. She's a fast dog so she was at the end of the 20 feet in seconds, faster than I could react and lo...

From Baghdad, With Love

<t>I got this book for Christmas and just finished. Really sweet story about a Col Lt in Iraq who finds a mangey flea ridden pup, adopts him despite military rules which states that's not allowed, and sets about trying to smuggle him back home to the States. It's half war-memoir (without being eithe...

<t>Oh dude. Even my front door with my separation anxiety maniac of a dog, isn't destroyed to that level. Re: Why did you choose your breed?

<t>I checked out shelters and rescues for months before I got Siris. I was looking for probably a beagle, but really just a short haired, medium sized dog who didn't have a huge barking issue. I met lots of prospects, but something always didn't feel quite right. I ended up at this particular rescue...

Nice stuff Calypso! That's so cool. Great too that you were able to mention rotties & pitties not being an automatic no no for those with youngsters. I'd love to read it when it comes out.

Yeah, I meant backing up in a heel position, Colliewog! But I've tried your way too MP! I just want it to look a lot cooler - heheheh. No time this week to practice, but I've got all next week off, so yaaaaaaay.

"Back Up" or "Reverse" - anyone know how to train this?

<t>Ok, so I'm looking to train Siris some new things. Back Up sounds fun and would probably look really impressive and she knows a lot of tricks already - so I thought I'd give this one a go. I recently saw someone with the perfect heeling pooch get their dog to back up and man, it looked great. <br...

<t>I vote for a doctored up citronella collar with sheepskin or soft fuzzy material under the collar part. I've seen these work really well on stubborn dogs and am going to get one for Siroons when I move into a condo because she barks when left alone. Citronella collars aren't that expensive so you...
