Re: They've come to kill us all!

What goes on at my house when there are humans outside in the front? KaeJae: "yap yap yap yap yap" - translation: "Get in here now and pay attention to me!", KiKu: "bark bark bark, woof woof woof - spin spin spin" - translation: "These people are freakin' me out, get away or I am goin got make mysel...

Re: himalayan chews

Trick with the Kongs is get a size bigger than you think so he can get his tongue in it. Do you have the softer puppy Kong, that is the tie died colors? Mine love himalyans, but too pricey for me. They got some cute little coined sized ones from the secret santa that were inhaled, but not really lon...

Re: Things that drive you nuts...

I can't stand "eh eh" or "no ma'am" as often is said here - it communicates nothing to the dog. Can I tell you -- the most annoying thing is when I teach a class, then someone comes back next week, their dog hasn't learned anything from what I taught the week before and when I ask "what happened"......

Re: Ugh! Show-obsessed people!

The way I read it Kara's asshat reference was in reference at one breeder/owner/person who doesn't socialize the pup (or whatever the offending thing is). it's unfair to generalize from one asshat to an entire community = one shitty show person doesn't mean all show people are that way. I was being...

Re: Ugh! Show-obsessed people!

I was being silly by saying I wanted to be an "assbonnet", of course I knew what you meant. My humor wasn't translating into writing, I guess. I wasn't generalizing about ALL show people, Qbert I was simply stating my personal experience with"those show people" who came to me that had the issues. Ye...

Re: Ugh! Show-obsessed people!

The show dogs that I have had in classes generally have issues with lack of socialization -- snarky with other dogs, don't know how to read canine body language, don't know how to settle down, things like that. I am not against "show dogs", I am against "show people" who do not have dogs who are pro...

Re: Poo-free dogs?

I hear ya. Japanese Chins shed year round and a LOT like a cat. I have to comb the girls out daily and still tell the patients that KiKu is a shedding dog. We use a dog stroller, so that makes it easy for those that don't want to hold her and get dog hair on them. I have found that a good conditione...

Re: OMG! Fat beagle

My parents have a Min Pin who, when they adopted her, was the ideal weight of 10 pounds. She now weighs 22 pounds. I have lectured them to death, as well as their vet. My Mother refuses to take responsibility, says it is all Dad's fault and he says it is all her fault. In their minds, food is love. ...

Re: Poo-free dogs?

I use a waterless shampoo on KiKu.....I use the Buddy Wash Lavender and Rosemary conditioners, but thin it with water, spray her down and wipe her down. I don't want to give her full baths that often and so this works well for me. Are you wanting to get her fully wet or just a good "wipe down" on th...

Re: Kathy Sdao, Plenty in Life is Free

Yea, the religious part was a put off for me and I did lots of NILIF with KaeJae in the beginning. He clearly came from the idea that he could do whatever the h*ll he wanted and so while I didn't make him earn every single thing in life, he had to earn bed and furniture privileges and learn good man...

Kathy Sdao, Plenty in Life is Free

I got this book the moment it came out, did a quick glance, and then put it in the stack. Since I have been home a week with the flu, it made it to the top of the pile. I'd love to discuss it with others who have read it.

Re: Best Control for a Strong Puller

Claire, do you treat him for automatic check in when on leash? I was just thinking, if he has never been leash walked, the has to figure out that there is a person at the other end of the leash. Teaching him to heel may be your best bet, the more I think about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1R...

Re: Best Control for a Strong Puller

Sense-ation and Halti are my two favs, but hard to find in stores. Sizing can be funky, so if you find a place that has them so you can try on , that's best. Halti head harness is better than a Gentle Leader for sure. Perhaps teaching him to heel first will fix the issue of loose leash walking.
