Re: Hand Stripping

You're doing a great job! The argument against bathing is that 1) It can soften the coat and 2) You risk introducing bacteria into those freshly plucked pores and giving infection a place to start. Good product choices help with 1. Spectrum is excellent. Isle Of Dogs does a wire-coat shampoo and Art...

Re: Tylee's Dog Food?

So far I'm happy with the Tylee's food. It's tiny little nuggets (smaller than Zuke's Minis treats) so thaws fairly quickly. Everyone likes it, and no GI upsets or other problems.

Re: Maybe a new Wirehaired Vizsla in my future

Kara ... rocks at the puppy naming game. LOL sure she does - as long as it isn't Kara's puppy! I named my own puppy and I'm already considering squirreling pennies away to pay for a name change with AKC - and she'll never be shown, what does it matter? Bruce The Spruce and Caci The Acacia didn't ma...

a Fb post alerted me that other members who'd been unable to log in were no longer being deprived. Realized I hadn't tried via my laptop in ages, and... TA-DA!! For those who don't play facebook, all is well, the girls are good (although poor Kitty has gotten lamentably fat since my neuropathy and p...

Re: I'm baaaaaaacckkk!

hey everybuddy! I've been somewhat absent of late - neuropathy has left my hands so numb that typing is a one-finger one-key hunt and poke method (it's even slower than hunt and peck!) - factor in a period of depression rearing its head and I haven't been online much. Then for a few days it seemed e...

Re: I'm baaaaaaacckkk!

Had a really rough night, but the new surgery did its job and I didn't need to go back to the hospital, and by this morning was feeling back on track - so I asked A to bring the girls home! It's The Rabbit's birthday, and she got home in time to have a lovely supper in her own Big Chair, and is curr...

apparently I didn't record any goals last year? Despite that, The Rabbit earned her CGC and RN, and managed once again to keep me functionally sane and productive. This year Kitty has joined us, and she's busily growing hair (she got shaved down during one of my hospital stays) in preparation for he...

Re: Don't bring your dog with you

Therapy dogs do have registries and such, but as a business, the only appropriate questions you're permitted are "Is this a service animal?" and "What tasks is the animal trained to perform to assist you?" There are no "papers" or ID of any sort. A business may ask a handler to remove the animal if ...

Re: I'm baaaaaaacckkk!

Home from another hospital stay, and another surgery - all went well and hopefully this procedure will resolve much of the trouble that had me cycling in and out of hospital every few weeks. We're planning another round of chemo once I've had some time to heal up from the surgery. In the meantime ev...

I was talked out of a mini-Pei that ended up in a local shelter a few years back. I still regret it, she was awesome.

SMH? The house-proud, sedentary older couple with the extremely high-drive Miniature Dachshund who really should be in a competitive agility/tracking/earth dog/ working hunt home.

Re: animal assisted therapy training

I'd locate a local therapy-visit group and get some direction just to get you started. Basic obedience is never a bad foundation, and a CGC is a good step-off baseline. (ie if you can't get the dog a CGC with pretty minimal effort, it may not be a great candidate for therapy visits of any sort.)

If the groomer can't squeeze you in, call the vet and ask if they will do a tech appointment? Some don't, but some do and usually significantly less expensive than an office visit with the veterinarian.

Re: Why don't people listen? (Don't touch my dog)

akin to "behind", I've taught my girls to park themselves between my (enormous) feet. If some fool persists in reaching for the dog, they'll end up putting their hand between my thighs, at which point I have no qualms about kneeing them in the eye socket.
