Re: Whisper (old dog stuff)

Yeah it’s probably pointless. Plus she’s always done the walk pee so she leaves a trail.

Re: Whisper (old dog stuff)

I'm trying to figure out if I should put potty pads by the back door at night. She goes out but sometimes has an accident. It's always by the door (except last weekend when she peed and pooped herself in her sleep which was pretty traumatic for both of us.) This morning, I slept a little late and wa...

So far so good. I will keep crossing my fingers. I'm glad we have a plan about being pro-active. I've taken to taking jars of baby food turkey on our walks for rewards. they only cost a dollar and easy to open and close a little jar!

Re: Whisper (old dog stuff)

Thanks for all your support. This week has been nuts!!! Hubby and I are trying to work through some things. These are things we (he) needs to work through whether or not we stay together. I would like it to work out but I really have doubts and I cannot live like we are any more so we will see where...

Whisper (old dog stuff)

Whisper has been in a decline e for over a year. We are on the roller coaster ride of chronic kidney failure. We did sub q fluids for a while but we were all miserable. The goal has been to find food that won't make her sick. She did great on raw for a while. Then she couldn't handle it. I then made...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

I just wanted to update about Colt. He had another episode in October. It's pretty frightening to see my you bc so lethargic and in pain. We have a plan. If he has another event, we are getting him in for an ultrasound within 24 hours. The goal is to prevent a flare up. He has anti-nausea meds and an...

Re: Not sure what to do - ailing best friend

Catherine, I'm sorry that you are going through thjs. I don't really have anything to add since this is a deeply personal decision and one only you and C can make. I almost let Whisper go a year ago when her kidneys crashed. I couldn't get her to eat for weeks and struggling with giving her fluids w...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

Jusy, I do think it's from the food change. Also my fears about calories also seem unfounded because he has gained some weight. He's eating about three cups and 3/4 can with some fat free cottage cheese or yogurt. Over three meals a day, it's not the obscene amount of food i thought I'd have to feed...

So you know when you don’t realize something is off with your dog until they are feeling better? I had that with Zoe when she went on thyroid medication. Colt is running around the yard at warp speeds and has his naughty pants on. He must have been feeling cruddy for months.

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

The new food isn't fish. It's the Royal Canin low fat kibble and canned. Horrible ingredients but I hear dogs with chronic pancreatitis issued do so well in it. I'm planning to stabilize him. Then put him on the Wellness. But the horrible ingredients=horrible smell. One thing I learned is about dry ...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

Wow. That's really i interesting. Addisons's has been mentioned. He wanted to wait to see if he has any more episodes before testing. We are going to regroup when I get back from vacation. It would make sense that it's two pronged and that I noticed the dry cost which prompted the coconut oil which ...

MaisyPancakes
The multiple meals sounds like a good plan. He’s too small to eat 4 c of food a day. I can’t even imagine the poo that’s going to happen too! If I do need to feed him that much I will try letting him have first and second breakfast.

Maxs_mommy. Sorry you are dealing with this for Max too. I just never thought that a mild case of pancreatitis from having some coconut oil (geeze, my other dogs are fine with it) has turned into this. He’s just a young lad too. Good to know about the adrenal issues and To know about Primal. I just ...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

Thanks, Sherri. This last time, he had had maybe 10 small cubes of turkey hot dog with the fat nuked out of it and he had a minor episode. The problem is I’d like him to gain 2 lbs. I did add non fat yogurt for some calories. I will definitely add pasta for some carbs. I also hear egg whites are fin...

Re: Which heartworm preventative do you use?

MP, Yes, I did all that research when Interceptor was unavailable. I think they did worry about dogs on the cusp of the weight ranges on the box - so dogs on the low end, getting too much ivermectin - think a 26lb dog getting the dose enough for a 48lb dog. I went with Iverheart Max because the weig...

Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

I'm trying to keep a lot of this off of facebook (and I hear there is a resurgence of ODO) so I figured, I'd touch base with my friends here. Some of you probably know, I have 4 dogs now. My newest is Colt. He's a 2.5 year old border collie from the same breeder and lines as Shasta. He's rightfully ...

Re: Whisper vomiting worried it was caused by food

Forgot to mention no ticks here. They are here but it's really rare. I've only seen ticks on one dog at the shelter ever. Vets don't know anything about TBD down here. Whisper had Lyme when we moved and when I re ran her c6 (my vet had to do research) her tiger was actually 0 which surprised everyon...

Re: Whisper vomiting worried it was caused by food

She had a blood panel last month. Everything was fine. Maybe she's just more sensitive as she's getting old. She wants to eat but I can tell she still feels yucky. The other time it lasted a few hours then she was fine. Not moping around.

Whisper vomiting worried it was caused by food

Hubby got home this afternoon and Whisper had vomited about 20 or so times. Maybe more... She was acting fine running around chasing squirrels. She hasn't vomited for several hours but she is not feeling good though she was upset at not getting dinner. I doubt she would have eaten or would have vomi...

I've always used separate products due to living up north and having to deal with ticks. I tried trifexis with Merrel but her immune system wasn't developed and I worried it was inhibiting her as a puppy. I found tapeworms in Whisper's stool (dewormed everyone just in case) so I'm thinking frontline...

Re: 3/9 BCS

I keep meaning to get some gene flora. I used that for Shasta when I adopted her and she was too skinny. I know TOTW is not a great food but she did terribly on Acana, Orajen and Fromm which are the common foods down here. I'm not going to switch to foods that didn't agree with her and this food was...
