Re: Never really realized how big a presence Roscoe was

It is almost unspeakably hard. My house has felt incredibly empty with Ginger gone. It's been two months and I keep waiting for it to get better. Hugs to you - I think all of us here miss Roscoe too. :(

Re: ChiChi had a seizure this morning, or something

June empties her bladder about 80% of the time when she has one of her episodes. She also vocalizes. Her legs paddle just a little and she stretches her head/neck/nose out and back.

Oh Sherri. I'm so, so sorry. My heart is just breaking for you. For some strange reason I felt the pull to come check ODO just now, and I see this. Many, many hugs to you. No matter how much you try to prepare yourself it's always so hard... and no matter how much time we have with them it's never g...

Re: The Old Dogs are Breaking My Heart

Junie is finally home. Her numbers are better but not normal. The real test now is if she can maintain. We have a re-check in two weeks to gauge how she's holding. If her numbers go back up drastically and/or she's feeling bad again by that time then I will have a decision to make about quality of l...

Re: The Old Dogs are Breaking My Heart

I'm certainly planning to give it a try! June is on prilosec (I think that's the one) and I've upped Ginger's pepcid dose. I was giving her just the very lowest dose, and intermittently at that. Just yesterday I upped her dose and am making sure to be more religious. I just mowed the yard, and the d...

Re: The Old Dogs are Breaking My Heart

Thanks, y'all. Even through the tears it somehow makes me feel less alone to not be the only one experiencing the "line of dominoes" effect. Part of me still hasn't yet recovered from watching Zippy decline, and he's been gone for a little over two years now. Sherri, I've been making a special effor...

The Old Dogs are Breaking My Heart

So I don't really want to post this on facebook, but I found out last week while taking June in to see about a dental that her kidneys are failing. Her numbers are really bad, and she's going in for IV fluids tomorrow morning. I took her in because she was rolling her food around in her mouth and sl...

Re: To kibble or not to kibble

I'm feeding Fromm right now and it doesn't stink to me. But I've had some stinkers with some other foods. As someone who feeds kibble pretty regularly I notice a difference in the smells from bag to bag. In fact, I can tell a difference in how my dogs' coats smell... major correlation to the food.

Re: 3 Month Anniversary

Does she have an undercoat? I really think she looks like there could be some border collie in the woodpile, and honestly these dogs do puff out some hair. But I've gotten used to it. The upside, if her coat is anything like my dogs, is that they tend to shrug off dirt pretty well, and usually smell...

So far I'm having a blast!!! It's SO beautiful here. I'm working my hiney off (and will work more hours starting tomorrow) but having a great time. I do miss the dogs, but it's a nice little working vacation so to speak. Mom says the dogs are being even better than she expected. Pia has even decided...

Re: No Dogs On My Bed

Well, I only called and texted my Mom until midnight. Yes, she only lives a mile away. lol Pia is a bit nervy, and sometimes when she stops by my house to let dogs out Pia will refuse to come out of her crate. I was worried that Mom wouldn't be able to get her in the house when I left (they were run...

I know!!! I'm equal parts excited and nervous. Plus it's weird not having any dogs here. :) I'm totally the most excited about the food. I want to take the train to downtown Geneva and wander around. :)

I've never been anywhere really. This is my second time on an airplane. Ever.

No Dogs On My Bed

Excepting ONE single solitary night about 4 years ago, I've not slept in bed without a dog in something like 14 years. Tonight there will be no dogs on my bed. Why, you ask? The why is that my new job is sending me to Switzerland for the next week! I leave tomorrow afternoon and will be back next Fr...

Any time I've ever had littermates together here it's been a rodeo. lol That's pretty much all I've got, cuz I've never raised a show pup. I would be very careful that the pups don't bond to each other more than they do you.

Re: Ginger made it through!

Thanks, everyone. Connie, I've picked up some bromelain, and have ordered some MCP. I'm going to start by *assuming* it has metastasized. I'm going to roll it around for a day or two to decide on whether or not we do any testing. I *may* go with a chest X-ray. It's hard to NOT know. But the truth is...

Histo Update: Ginger made it through!

Well, the histopath came back. It is a malignant melanoma. They did have clean margins, but it's a fairly aggressive sort of thing if it DOES metastisize. We have several options. 1. Watch her. 2. Staging. This would involve lymph node aspirates, chest xrays, and abdomen ultrasounds. If we stage it ...

LOL he just can't help himself. And yeah, sorry, but it is kinda funny.

I'll admit... I had to go GET Zippy many times after he lost his hearing. I'd get in his line of vision, call him to me non-verbally.... and he'd look square at me, turn around, and run away. lol
