I have the dog's name, 2 different phone numbers (both set up to send copies of voice mail to my email), and "microchipped".

Re: 13th annual “What are you going to do with your dogs” thread

First of all, I can't believe my little dog will be 7 next week. SEVEN!!! Where did the time go? 2018 Recap Training * I want to step up my training again this year, after things fizzling out somewhat around the middle of the year in 2017. Plans are to work through several Fenzi classes in my archiv...

13th annual “What are you going to do with your dogs” thread

Hi everybody! Here's your 2019 "goals" thread. I'm stepping in for Katie this year, since to her current life circumstances she isn't up for posting. Hopefully she'll join in later. So, in Katie's words: This is an ODO tradition for me to start a thread where everyone can list their goals for their ...

Re: I want...maybe.

Do you have to decide beforehand? Maybe look into breeders for all 3 of them and then decide from which breeder you'd most likely get the dog you really want?

Re: Does Anyone Use Tick "preventative" like Nexgard (Afoxolaner)?

Ditto on the cedarcide, and don't use any of the new isoxazolines class tick drugs. You don't need your dog to be a guinea pig for minimally tested drugs.

Re: Dental Care

In my experience, what works really depends on the individual dog. I've seen both great and no results with fragaria vesca, Zymox brushless gel, Dr. Dodds' Healthy Mouth and various other products. In some dogs the actual brushing makes a difference (even if it's just with a solution of ascorbic aci...

Re: Spore biotics?

It's a probiotic/medicinal mushroom combo product. Spores are the dormant stage of certain strains of bacteria, but can also refer to the spores of fungi. I'm not sure which he is playing on in his marketing here, but probably both. The nice thing about probiotic strains in spore form (e.g. bacillus...

It's not that complicated, and for pet dogs you don't have to do it very often. The best part is, barely any shedding. :)

Re: Oh the smell!!!

My first question always is, did something change with the products themselves? We don't always know right away when formulas change, etc. I'd definitely give probiotics (multiple benefits on top of balancing the gut flora), and you can try something like Beano to also cut down on fermentation. it h...

Re: Probiotics: human grade vs dog specific

Not true. I typically recommend human grade products, since they don't have crappy fillers/additives and are at least a little better regulated. They work, the evidence is in the results. Remember, what goes in comes out, so you can "culture" anything from the feces that was given. So if I wanted to...

Re: Heartworm treatment

You might want to consider adding some saccharomyces boulardii to your probiotic regimen, since it's a yeast and not affected by abx. I would still give a potent multi-strain product as well, but the yeast can really make a difference.

No, but they have to be registered with AKC in one way or another. For a PAL or Canine Partners, they can't be intact.

I so want to do this with Dax, I'm pretty sure he would pass. Sadly he's not eligible. I wish AKC would give a performance registration option that doesn't require neutering.

Re: Recurring diarrhea

I would go the route of Tylan rather than metro. Fewer side effects/risks and often it's possible to give a very small effective dose. If it manages a condition well, it can be used long-term.
