Can I give scrips away?

I have a boatload of Cerenia from Max's chemo treatments and I get a new 10-pill pack after every treatment. I have 5 packs unopened currently and nothing expires until 2021. We'll never use it all, I think we've used 4 pills total so far. Can I give it away to rescue or something? I don't know the ...

Re: Max is fading and I don't know how to handle it.

Thanks, we are frequent flyers at our regular vet (the receptionist knows me by voice and the vet takes my calls off-hours) and we're on top of his issues medically. It's just that ultimately time wins and I know it's winning more and more lately. Max has a small grocery list of chronic conditions, ...

Max is fading and I don't know how to handle it.

Mr Max turns 13 today, against all medical prognosis, but the last 6 months have been hard. As I type this he's pacing, it's almost 1 am, he won't pee outside (he pretty much doesn't give a flip about where he pees inside as long as it's not on the pee pad), his vision is much diminished to where so...

Re: Banzai losing weight

Well shit. With those symptoms but none of the other symptoms I might think Cushing's/addison's (I'd be more on the addison's end of the guess) after thyroid. How's his thirst and energy and liver numbers? Is it a sudden weight loss or had he been slowly losing over time? My other thought might be c...

Re: Probable stroke

So vision has returned, though it is low. He went to the eye doc and his regular vet for a recheck on Monday. He's also got a dog equivalent of a head cold, complete with gross snot. The first two nights of blindness were Hell. He was panicked, we were panicked. I did notice that when he was congest...

Re: Probable stroke

Jean, there is a possibility that the tumor spread. The location is close to the base of his brain so that could be or it could be the Cushing's tumor. Without an MRI or cat scan there's no good way to tell.

Re: Probable stroke

I am in contact with the trial vet. I actually want the labs on Friday but I don't know how this impacts the trial. Today is day 1, quality of life is not only on bad days but I won't let it devolve. I may also try cbd oil for calmness.

Re: Probable stroke

He's obviously distressed and keeps getting stuck in corners. I don't know how to calm him down. Tomorrow I go back to work and S will be home with him but can't lift for 4 weeks. He's calmer when I hold him and rock him while standing but panics when I sit with him. On top of being suddenly blind h...

Probable stroke

We think it's likely that Max has a stroke last night. He woke up this morning with sudden blindness and was spinning circles last night, which is unusual. This morning we went back to the dentist for his follow-up. His teeth incisions are fine but he has some sinus congestion I was concerned about....

Re: Cancer clinical trial

So there have been two treatments and a dental since I remembered to write things down. Max's tumor has shrunk minimally but still a tiny bit this time after 2 treatments of no shrinking. This chemo treatment hit him hard though, diarrhea right before I picked him up and in the house tonight. He did...

Re: 13th annual “What are you going to do with your dogs” thread

I was reviewing Max's records the other day and I realized we found the Cushing's disease in Nov 2015 with a longevity prognosis of 2-3 years and we found the cancer in June of 2017 with a prognosis of 6-12 months. Max will be 13 in March and we've beat the standard prognosis so we're going to do mo...

Re: Cancer clinical trial

Liver numbers are back WNL but white cells are up (which I knew would be because he's been having hella allergies/sneezies from the weather but I think he's almost over them) but apparently we're not aggressively fighting every last blood work number anymore, which is good. Next treatment is 11/20 s...

Re: Cancer clinical trial

Another treatment today, another 1 cm of shrink radially across the tumor and some shrinking of depth of the tumor so we forge on. No infections of the tumor and if we can only get the liver levels down we'll be good. Boy wonder is snoozing like the dead but did much better with the anesthesia. He w...

Re: Cancer clinical trial

In this week's edition of "weird bloodwork" we have slight anemia and higher ALT & ALP. ALT is always out of range because of the Cushing's but it's higher still, apparently. Hepatic support and B complex vitamins on board. Recheck on Tuesday.

Re: Cancer clinical trial

I was told there's not a definitive number of treatments, we'll go until it doesn't work or the tumor is gone. He was so zonked from the anesthesia yesterday that he was snoring as I carried him to the car. Something about the treatment also seems to cause diarrhea because he had 4 bouts of poopsplo...

Re: Cancer clinical trial

Today was the 3rd treatment and, after two weeks of normal range white cells, the tumor has shrunk 1 cm in both directions. Hooray! They said it's not uncommon for the tumor to become infected at some point during treatment but I'm hoping we won that rodeo already with the first round. I'll pick him...

Re: Cancer clinical trial

Connie, the study goals are to kill, or at least substantially reduce, the mouth tumor and reduce the mets. I took him in for a nail trim and my vet got a glimpse of the tumor this morning. She thinks it's gotten flatter and smaller but we'll see for certain when he goes on the 7th and can get a goo...

Last time the side effects manifested for about a week after and now he's stable. Now the next treatment is t...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

Just a note that liver levels and then gallbladder levels seem to go weird with adrenal diseases IME and since the gallbladder helps process out fats, when it doesn't function well the pancreas bears the brunt and takes a hit. Too many repeated hits from fat and inflammation takes over and you're in...

Gabapentin guidance

Max has had some issues with the clinical trial drug, his mouth tumor has swelled and become painful and he's nauseated which made getting pain and normal pills and eating a struggle . The trial vet put him on 25mg of Deramaxx daily for inflammation but he wasn't eating and was yelping when I grazed...

Re: Hi All! - What's going on with Colt

We're in the same boat with calories/fats after a pancreatitis flare that led to a sleep-over at the e-vet. The vet is right that adrenal diseases and pancreatitis seem to travel in parallel paths. Max eats primal raw which is 14% or less crude fat with extra ground beef, boiled to death, for calori...
