rimadyl and antihistimine?

Does anyone know if I can give Pistol rimadyl and an antihistimine at the same time? He has been panting this evening and I feel like he needs something tonight for pain, but he has a rash on his belly. I think the rash is because I gave him a tramadol earlier. But he needs something for pain for be...

Re: Pistol's Stitches

After our vet visit yesterday, Pistol seems not to be doing as well as he was before the visit. He just is far less likely today to use the leg when we go out - just mostly hops on 3 legs. He was using the leg at least 50% of the time before. I am assuming it is due to draining that serum off. I mea...

Pistol's Stitches

We went for our appt this morning. He took out a few stitches starting at the top of the incision - just maybe 5 stitches and left the rest. I knew he wouldn't take the rest out because over the weekend we were getting even more drainage from that one spot. He said it was a build up of serum and not...

Poor Max. I feel for you. Why can't they just stay healthy and happy until they are like 20 and then just go peacefully to sleep. I guess since I'm wishing, I could wish for older, but I don't want mine to out-live me. :) Prayers from here for you and Max.

Vet is unconcerned. Since we are going in Monday morning at 11:00, he will just check it then. It actually looks even better this morning than it did yesterday.

Re: Little drops of blood

Thanks guys. I feel whole lot better. Especially since you all agree. I thought that too, that it being so close to the bend of his knee it gets more pressure on it. No green goo at at all. Sometimes it is almost more like pink water. Other times it is more bright red but still pretty watery...

Re: Little drops of blood

No Heather. I was wishing I had called earlier, but I know the Vet is gone home by now. But I plan to call in the morning. Did you see where I added a picture above. Yes he is being kept quiet. He seems really content in his x-pen and I am so glad for that. It does seem to be when we go outside to p...

Little drops of blood

I am a little concerned and should have called the vet today, but didn't. Pistol's surgery was a week ago yesterday. He is due to get stitches out Monday. For the most part the incision looks great. But the part that goes right over the pointy part of his knee is redder looking that the rest and eve...

Oh my, my tears are flowing - I can just imagine how yours are. You didn't watch her die - you watched her go to Rudi. And she carried your love with her as she went. I'm sure those thoughts of her and Rudi together will bring you comfort in the coming days. Thoughts, prayers and hugs for you and Ha...

Laura, to begin with anyway, it will just be what is offered at the clinic where the surgery was done. He said we will talk about it Monday when we get the stitches removed.

Re: Good News - Bad News

Ahhhh! Sleep is a beautiful thing! :) We went to bed at 10:00 pm and slept until 9:15 am! I feel like I have a new lease on life. I don't think either dog ever moved. My husband came out of the bedroom and that is the only reason we woke up when we did. There was no agitation, no shaking, no pacing,...

Re: Good News - Bad News

Heather, you have no idea how much stuff I take at night :) I have a damaged nerve in my back so I take stuff. But my main concern is for his comfort rather than my sleep. I just want to address whatever is causing his agitation. Jean, that is good to know that you were able to make an adjustment th...

PS, talked to the vet and he agreed leave off the Tramadol tonight. He says since he is using the leg it means the pain has subsided anyway and it ccould be causing the restlessness.

Good News - Bad News

First the good news. We are 5 days out from surgery and Pistol is beginning to put the leg down a little bit when walking. Usually 3-4 steps and then he picks it back up. Of course we only walk around in the yard enough for him to do his business. But he is using the leg. He is also sometimes hiking...

Re: 3rd Night definitely NOT a charm. :(

Lisa, x-penning the furniture is what we were doing before the surgery. It worked great to prevent jumping on the furniture, but it didn't prevent him racing to the back door if he saw something or heard something. I was dreading putting him in the x-pen during the day because I thought he would hav...

I'm so sorry Ashley. It just never gets easier to say goodbye. But remember one day, you will be saying "Hello, hello" and meanwhile Sadie is in good hands in a good place with her Creator and all the ODO family who went ahead of her. Prayers for you from here.

Re: 3rd Night definitely NOT a charm. :(

Ashley, I can't do the x-pens in the bedroom at night. We just don't have room, but I can do it if I sleep in the den with them (and that may be what I end up doing). We'll get this figured out and we'll make it through. Then once Pistol gets past the worst of this, we will work on the bedtime crate...

I hear ya Heather. And I want to do that - I'm just not sure now is the time. I mean, I figure this whole surgery/recovery is stressful for him and wondering if now is the time to add additional stress. I know it would take several nights of him fussing and not only that, he will be listening to Pap...

3rd Night definitely NOT a charm. :(

Last night was terrible. Pistol absolutely would not stay in the crate. It was all I could do to get him in there and get the door shut to begin with. He cried and whined and pawed at the door constantly. I finally caved. I let him out on the bed next to me with a leash attached to him that was also...

Re: He's Home

Thanks all, I guess he is doing as well as he is suppose to be. Last night was rough. The first night he slept in his crate with it closed without a peep all night. Last night he whined off and on all night. He had had all his meds, but I gave him another pain pill at 4:30. I really think though tha...

Re: He's Home

We had a good night. He slept in his crate with the door closed all night without a peep! Now if Pappy will just do that. :) I will work on him in that regard as soon as Pistol has recooped a little bit. He went out and peed - took all his pills and now he is resting again. So far so good. I know th...
