Re: Thyroid testing?

I think you can never go wrong investigating health causes for behaviour! Have you sent it to Dodds, or do the full profile with your own vet? Any pasin assessments? What sort of training were you doing? It's not unusual to see lots of shifts up until 3ish yrs old, but anything new or weird I'd stil...

Talk to me about Lyme!

Hi folks, I've been on the prowl for a a dog, and I talked to a rescue today with a dog who was pulled from a KY shelter. He tested positive for Lyme and was treated, he's currently asymptomatic. We have some pretty specific criteria for Nextdog, so if the dog is A+ in all other days - should this b...

How about using an expen (or two) encircling the bed? Just make sure you can pull out both sides so you can actually get into bed. Basically, what I'm saying is crate yourself...

Elsie

Hi folks, I've been lurking for a bit, but wanted to write a notice that Elsie passed away a couple weeks ago. She was over 14, and only this past year did she start showing her age (she actually looked REALLY different in pictures a year ago this time vs just recently), and in the last month of her...

Re: Do all breeds belong in "All Breed" rescue?

I'd say yes and no.. but the point of importance is the quality of the rescue, whether breed specific or not. Plus, once you get into the realm of rescues, you really are looking at individual tendencies, rather than breed background. Sure, you can say that typically herders are going to chase movin...

Re: Tail amputation

Have you tried the little boy underwear to keep his tail down his leg? I can't remember who suggested that or when... Or vet wrap his tail to his leg? (or give it a little 'leash' so it can wag a little and not just pull out of the wrap) Poor guy. You should by stock in stain remover. Have you tried...

I was also wondering if this is coming out of nowhere, and I'd look at what might have triggered this. Any changes recently that could be related? Health? The trouble with this scenario is that you're asleep, so I agree with the 'find a management solution' approach. You can't very well train while ...

Oh that's a good consideration, I didn't think of that... He's 7mo, and honestly I would have waited longer (dealing with behaviour stuffs) but I'm taking him to the states for a seminar at the beginning of Dec and he needs to be done 30+ days before crossing the border. So that was a trade off. Luc...

He was done with a vax that is licensed for 3 years (Defensor 3), so I wonder if I could talk them into a titre at a year since it would technically be legal. (as far as I know Ontario says they must be done by 13wks and stay legally up to date, but I don't think it specifies HOW up to date is achei...

Rabies question

The standard protocol for Rabies is one vax, then 1yr later a booster, then can do 3 year vaccines. What is the reason for this shorter follow-up booster? Is is actually how the vaccine works (quick drop in immunity on initial vax, then sustained after the booster?) or is this one of those 'just in ...

Re: Henry doesn't want to pee

it's a bit of a balance for dogs who lose their shit around food... I'd add in a walk in the am (which sucks for you, but better than unhousetraining!), and find out what is reinforcing without being waaaay over stimulating. so a lower value treat, being sure not to show it to him anytime before he ...

Re: dog bite from a "friendly" dog

So hard to say what happened when there's no video of an incident - is it possible that the dog was being appeasing, rather than loose/friendly? (and was upset when he reached for him) Or that the dog wasn't landing an 'aggressive' bite, but over-aroused mouthing? (Labs? Over-aroused? Never!!) Thoug...

Re: Strange behavior: Suddenly scared of all loud noises

Any further incites into the weird breathing episode you mentioned in the OP? I'd be doing my best to manage the sounds, re: trigger stacking (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFGIRPAWcSM). I've found that significant sound sensitivities both trigger stack REALLY easily, and they also generalize real...
