Re: Banzai losing weight

Banzai is up to 42 pounds! Still shedding more then I think he should but over all looking so much better. He really has a great appetite. The food he is getting primarily has potato. It’s a fresh remade food. I’m starting to wonder if the additional carbs are helping with his appetite. I know carbs...

Re: Banzai losing weight

We had a little vomiting episode Monday. Really a bummer but seems to have cleared up on it’s own. He still gained a pound last week so I’m counting that as a win. He is still shedding like crazy but I did find a seasonal hair loss condition that kind of fits. Even though we live in California I wal...

Re: Banzai losing weight

No excessive drinking or urinating. He has a good appetite and energy levels are normal. He’s a hound so they pretty much sleep all the time unless they are chasing something. We have a morning off leash run every day and he is energetic as ever. Liver and kidney values were great as was the newer t...

Re: Banzai losing weight

The bloodwork came back pretty much perfect. No parasites either. The plan is to increase his food for a few weeks to see if that helps. If not we go looking for cancer, ultra sounds that sort of thing. What I am feeding right now is my perfect pet Hunters, which is turkey salmon and potato. Three b...

Re: Banzai losing weight

He is on regular heartworm preventative so that “should” take care of the real nasty parasites, I guess we will to a screening though depending on what we see in the bloodwork. I forgot to mention that he is on Zantac for his digestive issues. He has bilious vomiting syndrome, which hasn’t been a pr...

Re: Banzai losing weight

No it’s normal for them to be below normal. 😝 as far as thyroid goes. I’m pretty confused about the whole thing but from what I have read other then an autoimmune thyroid problem hypothyroid is pretty rare in sighthounds. I guess they often get misdiagnosed, or used to.

Re: Was this a seizure?

I am so sorry Connie, vent away. I just posted about Banzai’s weight loss and I was afraid to post on Facebook because I just didn’t want to filter through the crap. I’m already trying not to bitch slap his breeder who means well but is Really offending me with some of her suggestions. Sheesh. My on...

Banzai losing weight

Hey guys, I have a problem for the ODO hive, any thoughts or ideas appreciated. Banzai has been losing weight. He is 25 at the shoulder and currently weighs 38 pounds! This is a thin breed obviously (Silken windhound) but he could easily be 50 pounds and not be over weight. He is also losing hair by...

Re: Why do I hate trialing my dogs so much?

That is another really good point. Location. When I was trialing all the time, the trials are 2 to 3 hours away for me, so there is travel time and hotel expenses. If you are doing it every weekend that is a huge expense. I can remember many Saturday afternoons sitting in a motel 6 in Silmar. Many o...

So I’m liking the little dog, who knew?

I decided last November that I would like to have a third dog. Angel had been gone about a year and I felt it was time. I decided I wanted a small dog this time. For a few reasons, space in the car and also I had never owned a toy breed and certainly have plenty of clients and thought I should have ...

Exactly, I would never discourage someone from going down that road. I had sooo much fun for the years that that I did it. Just not my cup of tea these days.

Re: Why do I hate trialing my dogs so much?

You know I don’t enjoy competing anymore. So I rarely do it. Think about if you are just working outside your comfort zone and will eventually enjoy it more or maybe it just isn’t for you. I tell my students, and you know this, the dog doesn’t care. Those ribbons are just for you so the person needs...

Wow Amanda that is exciting news. Elvis is showing some promise in lure coursing so maybe next year we will see you at That Park that has field training and events. I can’t remember right now Prada Park?
Congratulations!

Re: No more dogs on my bed, ever!

The dogs don't come up until DH is up and out of bed. Queen size bed and DH is 6'2" and I'm 5'8" there simply isn't room. Although somehow Skye managed to talk us into sleeping on the bed for years. I don't think any of us slept well. I keep a baby gate up during the day or close the bedroom door so...

I just saw that and came over here to see what was going on. Like you pointed out you never mentioned his HD in the post. Looks like a guilty conscious on the part of the breeder to me.

Re: new van! Bella doesn't like it :(

Hey Jen, by the way thanks for the booties. :) Didn't you have a raptor hood for her at one time? I've had some pretty good luck with that with giant dogs and small cars that are reactive and just can't crate. Doesn't do much for the car sickness though. Quinn was sick in my truck and not in cars. I...

Are you thinking home prepared or store bought? I've noticed now that I am working at the store, many dogs sort of get over the fish based foods after a few months and refuse to eat them.

I'm really glad blood work came out okay. I didn't want to post gloom and doom but when Skye started leaking I thought it was a UTI and she was actually starting into kidney failure. Hopefully the new meds will do the trick.

Yes Judy that is a possibility except that they all sleep with me. ;) I'm sure I could manage something like that if I need to go out of town. Also I'm hoping that the acupuncture and herbals will eventually resolve the underlying problem. The alarmist in me is not thrilled with digestive problems i...

Re: Bilious vomiting syndrom

Several people have mentioned the automatic feeders and it might be an option if I didn't have two very clever and hungry Tervs. There is no way Banzai would stand a chance at getting any food before the girls got it.

Re: Bilious vomiting syndrom

Here is an update. As I stated everything was going fine with two Pepcid and two doses of Carafate a day. Like Mitzi the Carafate was a problem getting down but we were hanging in there. Last Monday morning after the time change, he was nauseous with a very noisy stomach again. That was with the Car...

Re: Bilious vomiting syndrom

His free T4 is normal, so the initial low thyroid could be from the fact he is not feeling well right now. With the Carafate he is doing great, pretty much back to his old self. I have been feeding turkey and rice but he had loose stool yesterday with LOTS of undigested rice in it. Last nigh he had ...
