unfortunately fromm uses ingredients from china, and taste of the wild is made by diamond Jen, can you tell me where that info came from? If I call the company, will they confirm it? Fromm is a local food to us in Chicago and I know a number of people who feed it. I'd like to verify the info about the ingredients. Thanks!

I'm about ready to buy more food and *I* would like to know about Fromm.... and Taste of the Wild, too.

i can't remember, it was a few years ago when i still paid attention to commercial food. probably worth emailing them though, in case i'm just spreading a false rumor i know there was at least something i didn't like about their product, but i can't remember what!

A friend of mine runs a dog food distribution service; I checked this with her. She said that the dry food from Fromm has never had any problems but several years ago they had an issue with their canned food, and they changed it so they only source from the US now. I've fed Fromm dry food to my seniors for quite a while, and I had never heard anything negative about their formulas or ingredients, so I thought I'd check on that. Also, my understanding is that TOTW isn't made by Diamond, but is manufactured at a plant owned by Diamond? That was discussed at length a couple of years ago, or is my memory completely shot? That's another kibble that I've fed for several years with absolutely no problems, for what that's worth.

Personally I don't trust or recommend any Diamond products at all, simply because of the track record the company has had in regards to ingredient quality and recalls, and my personal experience dealing with them.
They will not outright tell people "no, our suppliers don't use ethoxyquin" for example, and just dance around the topic with much BSing about certain information being proprietary.
TOTW is a Diamond brand, unlike for example Solid Gold or Canidae, which are made by Diamond for independent companies. Diamond is just hiding the association as much as possible, as it has done with other products they market for themselves under different names. (Another thing I don't like - if you make it, own up to it.)
As far as Fromm is concerned, apparently their canned food is made in China, but not the dry.

Good to know! I gave my dogs lobster ravioli stuffed into kongs for breakfast this morning. One of those 'I'm cleaning out the freezer and why should this go to waste?' meals.

Thanks for the info -- This is getting to be quite a game and I don't seem to be passing GO.
I was talking to a friend today who said she won't feed Wellness because of some ingredient that's in it.... now I cannot remember what it was!
Somebody pass me a noose.....

I visited an independent pet food store today and spent time at their dry food section and left more confused than when I entered! I left with a container of Nupro because my 50 gallon bucket had run out. Saw Instinct and other outrageously-priced stuff. Seeing Blue and Spots Stew there reminds me about a conversation at a chain pet food store the other day..... The Blue rep was there and told my friend that Halo was actually a very good food. I'm sure that rep's employer would love to know she is recommending the competition!

This is what my friend is telling me is in Wellness dry food. Is this true? If so, what is it's danger or is there none? I want to get back to her with some intelligent response, and I'm coming to you folks for it!

I know we've done this before, but we've got more people now.
Just to keep track of who does what, list how you feed (kibble, raw, home cooked, etc.). Don't worry about detail unless it's something outside of the realm of these areas.
Thanks!
I'll start. Currently feeding kibble and supplementing with raw. I'm working on transitioning to either 100% raw, or primarily raw with supplementing kibble. It's been a month and a half, and I'm proud to announce we've transitioned to raw mixed with Sojo's Grain Free. The dogs look great, have smaller stools and except for a few 'beef-induced' accidents, all is well!

Oh, me.... about the beneficial bacteria..... here's my "friend's" response. I'm dropping it. There's no winning with her.
I researched it heavily because of my lyme...I make sure I only buy acidophilus that ISN't made with it...it's cheap & fast and that's why it's in the mass market...I use Primadophilus Bifidus---no step stuff...it is inflammatory...there is an "acceptable" level of arsenic in your drinking water, too!

I put her in the "friend" category because I've about had it with her extremes. She's a registered nurse, her mother was a nurse, her sister is a nurse, and they think they know everything. I won't go on about her..... I HAVE told her that I don't see this listed in any of Wellness foods and all she responds (in email) is that it's in SOME dry foods but not wet. I have said it twice to her that it isn't in Wellness, despite what she told me originally. She avoids that truth and just repeats her original thoughts. I'm done with her (not only for this situation, but in others). Thanks so much for providing the truth to me. Now I'm going to go out and buy CORE! I don't know what I'd do without ODO.

When I first got my boy as a puppy, I learned about the raw diet and was excited about it. Trouble was he wasn't. Macho is a picky eater like I have never had before. He won't eat the raw bones. At first he tried but didn't want to get his paws dirty and thought chasing the bone around with his nose wasn't as much fun as shredding kleenex all over the living room. My dh is such a bleeding heart he wouldn't let me put the food up and wait until hunger overtook finicky, so I gave up. Fast forward five years: I switched recently from Wysong's kibble in the am and freeze dried raw in the afternoon because I read that the kibble wasn't the best though the freeze dried was OK. After searching the pet store we settled on Innova Evo, kibble am, canned pm. All or mostly meat, I think. Now I heard that one of the mainline companies bought Innova out so I'm searching for more information. He won't eat his food even slightly damp -- unless it's with home made cooked meat juice or gravy. Even his canned food has to be firmed up in the fridge. I worry about him getting enough water, but he seems to do OK. I'm thinking about home made, I did that years ago for one of my girls with health problems. Ironic. I don't cook for myself, hubby does it now that he's retired. And I definitely need to stir myself up enough to order some more freeze dried raw. It has to be the solid burger though. He won't touch the "dusty" stuff. I just joined. Will try post an introduction tomorrow. This is a bit wordy, but it is about food, right?

Welcome to ODO!
Oh, the joys of a picky eater! I've got one of those, and a beagle who will gobble up anything the picky one doesn't eat if I turn my back for even a second. You have my empathy! Good luck finding something he likes. I sure know what that struggle is like.

Well, I have to change what I posted waaay back on page 1 or 2. My girls both started getting the mucousy runs really bad on Summitt - I don't know if they changed their formula or source the ingredients from a different company or what, but we eliminated all other possible causes. I weaned them over to Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison (kibble) a couple of weeks ago, and both have been absolutely fine ever since. The only problem I have with it is the price: $75 for a 28 pound bag!! And they do eat the same quantity as they did the summit (Which was $49 for a 30 lb bag), so I'm not saving money there. In fact, Charley is losing weight and is constantly snuffling around looking for more food (not characteristic for her) so I will have to increase her portions. My dogs now only get the kibble, but Charley does get some cottage cheese on hers (she won't eat kibble without a "topping"! Kinda like the hot fudge on a sundae! ). What's weird is that I thought maybe Charley was allergic to sweet potato as she got really, really sick after eating a sweet potato treat once. So I introduced her to it really slowly. Must have been the treat itself, because she's doing great on this kibble. And for once in her life, Sadie doesn't have gas.

All 3 of mine are on raw. It's the one thing I know they'll all gobble right up. They like home cooked too, but start getting really picky after awhile on it. There's very few dog food companies that I trust and Chase has some food allergies, so this is way easier for us.
