I know, not really a super big deal, but I'm very proud of my beastie. Kona got his first leg in CKC rally yesterday in the Novice A class with a score of 97. There were three of us with that score so placements were determined by time, and Kona came away with a big fancy High In Class rosette, a bottle of shampoo, and a new embroidered towel.

I'm especially pleased because this was only his second time in a show building, and they can be loud and busy and scary. We did a fun match in June (his first time in a show building) and about 5 minutes of heeling practice last month, and that's about it in over a year. He's really a very good dog.

Congratulations Team Kona! That's great! I think it's a super big deal, and certainly more than either of my boys has ever earned. thumbup

Now I'm already trying to figure out if I'm willing to jump him or not - he has one leg and I'm thinking about the next level. tongue They need to jump in Advanced and CKC won't make adjustments on the jump height but I think they are pretty low to begin with. Dunno...

AKC Advanced/Excellent Rally jump heights are fairly low:
Height of Dog at Withers - Height to be Jumped
Less than 10 inches - 4 inches
10 inches to less than 15 inches - 8 inches
15 inches to less than 20 inches - 12 inches
20 inches and over - 16 inches

I suspect the CKC heights are similar as the rules and signs seem very similar otherwise. I'm sure he would be okay jumping 16" most of the time but if he got injured for something so silly I would feel pretty rotten.

Kona is 11, he has a bum shoulder, and he's missing a front toe. I can't assume he'll be okay. OTOH, he loves this stuff, and we could always train for it and see how it goes.

Hey! If the signs/descriptions I was just reading are right then there is no reason we couldn't aim for Excellent too. There is nothing in Excellent he can't do already except stand still for me to walk around him, and that's a component of an Advanced exercise too. So if we get as far as Advanced he should be able to do the next level too.

I love it when my dogs already know stuff. tongue
