We had a local flyball tourney this weekend for both Cousteau and Havana. They were on the same team so a friend ran Cousteau, which Cousteau loved. (Cousteau will run for anyone or no one depending on his mood.) Over all he did pretty well for an old guy on a hot day - his times were fairly consistent which is all I care about.

Havana did ok, she's definitely getting her groove. Unfortunately she still dinks around at the box when she's tired at the end of the day, but at least today she waited until the last race to do it. Since Cousteau tried to leave the ring after running the previous race we left him in his crate. Havana decided she didn't to bring a ball back, so she got pulled and my friend literally dragged Cousteau into the ring. (If it wasn't the last race or if he had showed abnormal soreness I wouldn't have done it.) It wasn't a pretty time, but at least it was a finish!

He's roughly 300 points away from his 15,000 point title (Flyball Master Champion) and then I think he'll be retired. I'll trot him out as an old reliable if green dogs fall apart in a tournament and he's good in practice for passing green dogs because he just doesn't care. All he wants is the chance to bark tough and play some tug with the guys on the team. smile

Way to go Cousteau! Show those young puppers what a veteran can do. Good job Calypso and Vani too. smile

If he gets "Flyball Master Champion", does he get to wear a cape or carry a sceptor or something? It sounds very official...

Do you have U-Fli up there? I had intended to run Ben in Veteran's - there's a couple around here now that "my" team goes to - or would if they could get a team together. Gas prices have slammed everyone and it's hard to make practice. bawl

Cousteau has stated that he would like a FMCh food dish - preferably one that never empties. Or an embroidered patch on a couch that only he, not Havana, is allowed on.

Actually the big deal title for our team is the ONYX, which is 20,000 points. I just don't think that's feasible for Cousteau, but maybe for Havana.

Becca - we do have U-Fli, but our team made the decision to stick with NAFA since we had a couple of dogs going for #1 or at least top 10 breed standings. We just couldn't get enough teams together to do both venues. NAFA does have a veterans category now, but it's just Cousteau and two height dogs who qualify and we desperately need the height dogs on the regular teams. I could send him out as an individual in U-Fli tournies, but he's a pain in the dupa to pass. We just make sure that he doesn't jump more than 10 inches and actually in October one of our teams will drop down to 6 inches, so we'll try to keep him on that team.

Oliver wants to know where he can sign up for flyball if that's the prize! (Nevermind that he's a lazy couch potato and has no interest in balls; anything that gets him a full food dish is a good thing in his books!)

Cousteau, you're such a jock! rofl He reminds me of a guy who's middle-aged and has lost a couple of steps but who will still go out on the weekends and show the 16" softball team how it's done. thumbup

Rock ON Cousteau! Good for them young whippersnappers that Cousteau is there to come to the rescue! Good luck with the title too - Ginger says that never-ending food bowl sounds like a worthy cause. wink
