My poor lab has been losing weight over the last month and we were starting to get worried. She went from a healthy 78 lbs and now I am starting to see ribs frown We have upped her food intake to 1 1/2- 2 cups 2x's a day but she was still eating grass all the time and slightly lazier than normal. I wondered if others had any issues with candidae lately and apparently so. I will be switching food tomorrow. Should the store take back the food if the bag is 1/2 gone? Just curious if it is worth it to drag the food back to the store.

I'd call the store first and see if they'll take it back before you make the trek with it.

Good luck getting your girl onto a food that works for her! And welcome to ODO!

i switched to Innova over a month ago BEFORE the formula change. the feed store i go to has expressed a very large decline in sales for Canidae. I just stopped in tonight and the store told me that the new canidae stock is not moving and he had take in a few returns and won't get credit for them or something. anyway he is expecting to receive the new Canidae flavors this week sometime and hopes it will be a big seller. if not he's not sure what he's gonna do. i wonder if the new Canidae line will be a big seller?

If you do a search for Mordanna's posts, you'll find threads in which she talks about the recent Canidae formula change. Some dogs can handle it, others can't.

I still find it wacky that they went with Diamond as a manufacturer, and changed their formula so they are so similar to Diamond products. I'd think they'd want to steer clear of Diamond's niche since they no longer have the advantage of being unassociated with them.

To me, as someone to whom mere Diamond association is not a huge issue, it doesn't make sense to buy Canidae when Diamond's got foods that a) have better ingredients (TOTW, Chicken Soup), or b) are less expensive (Diamond Naturals).

Well, I'm not usually this grumpy - I just feel a bit put out when I used to use and promote this food a lot. But this is exactly why I homecook now - these companies get you going along and then pull the rug underneath you.

Well, the migraine doesn't help either. tongue

I am grumpy right along side ya.
The logic and business dealings of dog food companies now days is a enough to give you a migraine too.

I have not tried the new food yet. I wanted to find something to add to the rotation and now Healthwise is available near me. I am going to buy that next and if my dogs like it, they'll continue on that as the main food in the rotation. I will try the new Canidae eventually, probably. We still are finishing up the old.
