HAYDEN UPDATE:
Two legislators seem to be the key to changes in the budget. It maybe more effective to call their offices and ask that the state budget contain some monies for California Animal Shelters attempting to comply with the Hayden holding periods.
These are their contact numbers.

Legislative Alert
The Exterminator Governor is Back!
State Funding to give pets trapped in shelters more time to be found or adopted is not in the state budget.
We know there is a budget crises but not funding a state law is not “belt tightening”. It is a politically motivated attack on state law.
No one Governor should have the power to pick and choose what state responsibilities he wishes to fulfill and which to ignore.
What you can do:
Call or write your State Senator and Assembly Member.
You can find his contact information in the following way
Go to :
www.leginfo.com.Click on: the Your Legislature button.
Fill in the Zip Code field.
Click on Search.
This will give you the Telephone Number ( in Sacramento) and the Fax Number for your State Sentaor and Assemblymember.
Since legislative districts and zip codes do not coincide, there maybe more than one person that you can contact. If you have the energy, contact all of them
If you choose to fax a letter

Dear (Senator Assemblymember)
Please restore some funding for local shelters attempting to hold lost pets in California Shelters for at least 4-6 days. It increases both their reunions with former family and their adoption from shelters. I understand the financial sacrifices must be made for the state to function responsibly, but to eliminate all funding is a political not a fiscal act.
Sincerely
