To clarify, she still could not be in the house with my dogs when she left us, but we had had successful on leash meet and greets. We felt confident that when we placed her she would continue to do well.

Hang in there. Nobody doubts your sincere desire to help this dog. I think people just want to help you come up with any ways to problem solve.

Good luck with whatever you do. I know it can't be easy......

Gosh... just trying to find a great home for a sweet, easy-going, lovable dog is difficult enough. I can't even imagine how hard it is to find a home for an aggressive one.

My sister-in-law is involved with rescue and all she personally adopts are aggressive pit bull mixes (because no one else will take them). She can't go to a dog park because her dogs will attack, and people get angry with her about this. When she walks her dogs she has to warn people to keep their dogs away. And she's gotten bitten and hurt many times from stopping dog fights. It's very challenging.

I'm sorry you're in this situation too. Unfortunately, only you can make the "right" decision - and whatever happens, i'm confident from your posts that it will be. Good luck - i'm thinking about you.

You, your husband, your dogs and Anaya are in my thoughts.

I see you live here in California - have you thought about contacting Best Friends? it's not a HORRIBLY long drive to Utah....

Thanks everyone.

I heard back from another trainer, so things are starting to look up for Anaya. Thankfully. Must be all the good thoughts and vibes. laugh

I hope for the best for you & Anaya. I completely understand what your going through. I have gone through a lot with my rescue Rottweiler Athena and aggression. Some of it was sorted out and most of it is just her genetic make up that even through redirectional training was never sorted out. She displays offensive aggression and predatorial aggression and I would never ever trust her around a new dog without a muzzle on her. Lucky for me she gets along extremely well with our 5 other dogs. It also helped that I had Newf's to teach her how to act around other dogs and how to play with them as she was never socialized before I rescued her. I could never imagine rehoming Athena and if it ever came to that I would have her euthanized first unless i was sure the new home understood all levels of aggression.

Good luck. I hope the trainer will be able to help her.

It's never an easy choice to make, but those 'one dog only' and 'super dog saavy' homes are very very rare. Whatever happens, at least you know she was given the best chance possible, thanks to you.

Thanks, everyone. I've been emailing back and forth with the individual who will be doing the behavioral consult tomorrow and I am feeling more optimistic about it all. I can't wait to hear what she has to say. It's a shame I have to work, so my husband has to take her, it will be a long wait for me to know!
