I'm not sure if anyone else is as shocked as I am, but MP turns out to be one of those dogs that one can sort of rollerskate with!!! I started out walking behind them but MP was too worried where Mama was, so I switched to driving around as "backup" like those marathon mobiles. Every time I drove past them, Acorn gave me thumbs up and they kept on runnin'. At one point when I wasn't nearby, Acorn had to "bail out" into the grassy patch because they were going way too fast and MP wouldn't slow down (they were running down hill). He ended up with just a little knee scrape and was pretty much OK. He thought they were going at least 20MPH, possibly 30MPH. That sounds like a major exaggeration, but I'm sure they were going verrrry fast.

They saw a bunch of dogs, too. She did just fine!! Acorn said she woofed at one dog, but didn't lunge or try to pull him down; more like a drive-by eff-you type thing. They were able to pass other dogs on the same side of the street. Wowieeee!

I've got to give it to Acorn for believing that MP could do this! He does stuff with her I'd never be able to because I'm too chickenpoop/uncoordinated/nervous-wreck/partypooper. It's pretty crazy because they "practiced" in a school parking lot for literally 20 seconds and he just took off with her to the streets.* If I were doing it, I would have doled out a half pound of treats just for existing with me and skates and gone home to do some more tomorrow.

I'll take real photos next time--this is all I got out of my car window (I stopped!). It sucks but it is proof!



Anyhoo, just wanted to share the excitement!!


* Acorn lives near a lake and a big ol' woodsy park--so most of this happened on a parkway type area. Just so you guys don't picture them ziggyzaggin' between buses and motorcycles!

That is wonderful. Maybe Jen is right, MP needs a job to do during her walk. How would she do wearing a backpack to carry your water and stuff?

Hey MP looks way smaller than i pictured her. i mean I've seen pictures of her before, but i thought she was generally bigger. *shrug*

I tried skating with the boys a few times, skipping all the baby steps and just trying it. I tried one dog at a time and then combined them. It went surprisingly well, they kept a decent pace and i didn't die (I'm horrible with coordination and have a tendency to hug walls to stop).

Who is cuter, MP or Acorn in rollerskates and helmet?

That must have been so much fun, and good exercise, too, I'd imagine!

Just tell him to stay FAR away from those wrought iron fences with the spikes on top. seriously. They don't go well with people with wheels on their feet and dogs on leashes.

We got Acorn some extra padding (knees and elbows) and went out again yesterday. This time, I rode a bike next to them. It was really hard keeping up; they are FAST! Will post more pictures in the photos section.

MP just really, really loves to run! Bari, I've thought about the backpack thing too, but I think she has to be running to think it is a jobbyjob or a fun thing or whatever. I've done other "wearables" and those things didn't seem to register as anything other than sucky stuff she doesn't really want on her.

Colleen, Acorn's not neutered but if you want to do it, go ahead!

Tatyana, I know, she looks littler than she really is, I think--Acorn is 6'2" and wearing rollerskates and a hardhat, so maybe that's why.

Anyhoo, I'm glad this is becoming their fun thing to do. Acorn's really excited about it--he thrives on positive reinforcement!!

I think that's great that they can do this together!
There's no way I would get on skates, let alone have a dog attached to my hand at the same time! But it sure looks like fun for both of them.
(The last time I was on a pair of skates, there was a key that tightened them to my shoes! hahahahaha......... ah, where did the years go?)
