I really thought I was going to have to wait until after the first of the year. Kathy had herding camp and a trial at her place this Month so I figured she wouldn't have lessons, and next Month I'm going to Chicken camp. Luckily she is doing 4 days this Month and we got in. She does something called Good Woman Thursdays and you can drop in for a lesson for 20.00. I really wanted to do that. I'd hate to pay for a whole lesson when odds are Brenna wont be in there long. I'm a little conflicted about the whole thing. I know Mikki (the breeder) breeds her dogs keeping their herding talent in mind so it will be surprising, although not impossibe, if she doesn't do well. At this point in my life adding another dog sport is kind of daunting. Plus I have seen some of the Tervs the first time they are on sheep. (Yikes!) So some don't eat the sheep vibes would be appreciated. She has done really well with my stock, but my goats and sheep are ten years old and very used to dogs so they don't spook easily. Kathy has great sheep for beginner dogs, and I really don't want Brenna to eat one. Plus Kathy will take her out, most likely with me along with her. Luckily Brenna is still a little tiny thing so she should be easy to throw my body on is she gets out of hand.

OH wow, sounds like you might have your hands full! Lots of "dont eat the sheep" vibes headed Brenna's way. I hope she does great and you both have a fabulous time.

A lot of Terv first time on sheep - uh - excitement - comes from the novelty of it. If she's been around livestock already, she should be more controllable.
I have a good friend who used to come to my place and train her Tervs. I loved those dogs. She had the funniest ways of training, but it worked because she knew her Tervs inside and out.

I've had her out there before just to get a feel for the place and she did really well. More interested in the sheep poop then anything else. I'm having a friend video it so good bad or ugly I'll share.

Of the 5 or 6 Belgians that herd with us in clinics, the response has ranged from taking the sheep down by the throat to being somewhat indifferent. I second the call for pictures! Good luck. I hope it's a fun time for you both.

How exciting! No matter what, it'll be an adventure. Can't wait to see the pics/video.

All dogs can be a bit nuts when exposed to sheep for the first time- no matter the breed. Since you already have sheep and your pup has seen them, it should go well. I have seen many working breeds (read: all) all over the board when it comes to how they respond/react to stock that are a bit more light. Good luck- take pics!
