Thought I'd start a new thread. We bought a pack of Advantage, put it on Smokey.

Taffy and Licorice both have irritated, chewed on skin with scabs. Licorice's is looking better, but Taffy looks pretty inflammed with, pimply looking bumps - skin irritations in the center of her back. Very red.

I haven't given them Advantage yet. I don't know if it's wise to put that on now when they have broken skin on their backs.

I don't see any contraindications on the pack or on the paper included with the box.

Should I wait a till we've healed a bit before putting that on them?

Hard to say--on the one hand, you really don't want them to get any more fleas, since its so irritating...on the other, I would not apply advantage to broken skin.

Is the skin broken in the between the shoulderblads spot where you'd put the advantage? If the skin ok looking in the few inches around the spot, I'd probably go ahead and put it on. Just my personal opinion.

I think their ok at the shoulder blades. It's down at the rump their broken out, if I remember right don't you put some of it down the whole back. I'd have to get up and read the package again. I'm exhausted this morning.

Smokey looks calm this morning, his fleas are dead, yeah! These guys have been as bad as a houseful of kids with chicken pox and Mamma running with the itch cream from kid to kid.

If there were open sores nearby (not scabbed over) I would be cautious. If the skin isn't broken and there is nothing on the package/insert that says don't use on broken skin anyway, then I would go ahead to try and get a jump on the fleas.
