Fed a sample (4oz.) of the Dogswell Vitality Canned stew and Roxy loved it. I ordered a couple of cases here. I was giving her Evangers Organic canned for about a year but switched to Natures Organics about two a month ago. Ingredients are ok, check them out. I give her a 1/2 can a day and 1-1/2 cup of Orijen. She does really well on both. Her poo is not stinky and she goes once a day like clockwork.

the by nature organics is great - i just wish it went on sale more often, it's so expensive to feed.
i'd be careful with dogswell - if you search on here you'll find some threads mentioning the issue of labeling "made in the USA" - which is true, but doesn't make up for the fact that their main ingredients come from china.

Emails to and from Dosgwell:

Paul,
Where did you get this information from? I can guarantee you that our chicken in our canned food is not made in China. In fact, it would be ridiculous and completely cost prohibitive to ship chicken all the way from China and put it into our canned food in the United States. It also is illegal to send uncooked chicken across US borders.
So I have no clue where your information is from, but if you would like to point out to me whomever told you that, I will absolutely set the record straight. It’s impossible to bring raw chicken from China to the United States, and ridiculous to do so.

Hello,
I have since found out your food is made in the USA with chicken from China.
Deceptive advertising! I'm returning the food I purchased and will spread the word on the forums about your foods.
Your company should be ashamed.

Hi,
I would like to know if ANY of the ingredients in your Vitality Canned food are from China.
Thank you

http://www.ourdogsonline.com/ubbthreads....nned#Post168190Here's the thread from a while ago. They state that they use chicken from a plant in China, perhaps that is only for their treats? They also state that finding antibiotic, hormone free chicken in the US is cost prohibative. This was not that long ago either, and all from emails their reps sent to Robin. Not sure about the 'shipping raw chicken across borders' is illegal claim. It might be true, but on the other hand, raw fish, beef, lamb, etc is all allowed to be shipped across US borders.

I can guarantee you that our chicken is from the United States. We do have vitamin premixes that are from other countries, but those are tested THOROUGHLY by our manufacturer and by independent 3rd party labs throughout the United States.
So rest assured, our canned food product is from the United States. Although please do know that we guarantee the safety of our products regardless of the country of origin. We stand behind what we put our label on.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for responding.
If you can state that none of the ingredients used in any of your products are from China, you have my apologies.
Dogswell Vitality canned - Yes or No to ANY ingredient from China?
From the message I received below I can read that your treats are from China. I'm sorry, I will not purchase any food product from China regardless of the testing.
I came across this:
Response from Natalie Barr:
DOGSWELL(r) prides itself on passing on important information to our customers. I do not attempt to be elusive or vague, however as I said we have not yet confirmed our final suppliers. We are proud to use only then best, and when that comes form another country, even China, we will stand behind that product.
I am not sure if you are aware, but our treats are made in China and I can assure you that our products are safe and clean. We have USDA permits for each of our products and our facility has an FDA registration number. We know every single supplier to our manufacturer. We test our ingredients for melamine, bacteria, pesticides, and contaminants. We know our suppliers and we test our products before they are shipped to our distributors. Testing is done at a FDA and APPMA approved lab, Cornerstone Laboratories, located in Tennessee. I have attached a copy of our results for your review. Our canned food line, even though it is made here in the United States, will be held to the same rigorous testing to ensure its' safety. : Our product is the cleanest on the market. It is very difficult to find antibiotic and hormone free chicken in the United States. Assuming we could find a reliable source domestically, it would be impossible to find the same healthy, cage free, antibiotic free, and hormone free product at this price point. Our President, Marco Giannini, routinely visits our factory in China. I have attached a photo of our cage free chicken; you will see that it is clean, humane, and safe.
We know that it is easy to become concerned as the media is emphasizing safety issues in Chinese products. DOGSWELL(r) shares your concern. We look forward to the day when all factories in the United States are met with the same level of scrutiny we have put our suppliers through. Let me assure you our treat factory is one of the cleanest, not only in China, but by American standards as well. We trust them with the safety of our pet's health as our pets are family too.
I hope that you will continue as a DOGSWELL(r) customer. If you would like us to send you samples, please let me know. We'll be happy to do so.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. You are always more than welcome to contact our President, Marco Giannini, at Marco@dogswell.com or at 310.651.5201

It is very difficult to find antibiotic and hormone free chicken in the United States. Assuming we could find a reliable source domestically, it would be impossible to find the same healthy, cage free, antibiotic free, and hormone free product at this price point. Pure blather. If you built it, they will come. Producers dictate what their growers do right now - growers would love to change to healthy, cage free, antibiotic free environments (by the way, most chicken grown in the US is technically cage free - they run for the six to eight weeks of their lives in a climate controlled house - there's no need for a cage because they CAN'T walk after they are abou tfour weeks old!). Also by the way, ALL chicken grown in the US is hormone free - no hormones used in chicken by law. Did I mention this is doubletalking blather? These food companies think we have no idea how livestock is grown and can pull the wool (feathers?) over our eyes. Climbin off that soapbox and heading to bed. . .
