They clip the flight feathers on them to keep them grounded. However one of the people I know went to a trial where they didn't do a very good job of it and the ducks took off as soon as they saw his dog ! At the time he was somewhat less than amused . Ruffysdad

We didn't clip wings, except for the Mallards, at our trial. Our breeds were heavier all-purpose (egg and meat) breeds like Pekin crossbreeds, Buffs and Swedes and Cuyugas, very nice for working and no flying. We had some Khakis worked into the group but they did indeed do a little winging around. Khakis can't fly but they can get a few feet off the ground easily. I didn't clip any more wings than I had to, because these ducks free ranged over my pastures and I didn't want to remove any defenses on the smaller ones. The ducks we are raising now are Rouens. It would be hilarious to have a trial on them. I'd have people cursing me for sure. They are already so slow and heavy. Gus splits them up and goes, "Hey, what was that?" Bet is the only one they respect now because she is pushy, pushy, pushy! Congrats to the TBCs! When you achieve something under tough judges you know you've got something going right.
