This fella is being watched and discussed on my moosedog list, and we're all trying to help him find a forever home.

Dukie's owner died, and his sister Abby already found a home. He's in La Junta, Colorado. I'm sure transport could be arranged. He's sweet, well-behaved and in need of going on a diet! He's only 8, which is middle-aged for a Norwegian Elkhound, most live to around 16.

One of the shelter workers is fostering him (it's a high-kill shelter) but can't keep him, as much as she'd like to.

As many of you know, I adopted a rescue elkie last May because I've always loved this breed. He's been everything I wanted and more. Elkhounds are an ancient breed, smart and funny and very adaptable. I'm just in love with them.

There are many Norwegian Elkhound rescue organizations, if you are interested in an elkhound. The John Nelsen Moosedog Rescue Fund is a good place to start.

My husband had an elkie as a teen...She was 15 when she passed. On this partic dog tho it says he was picked up as a stray....but you say his owner died? How sad. I hope he is placed soon. Jamie
