We have a young male pb yellow lab--field style at the shelter. He was evaluated by a SAR organization and passed (with flying colors) their initial "drive" assessment. He failed, however, their hip xrays. They aren't bad, just not great. Certainly workable but they won't take ANY dysplasia.

He needs a home that will utilize his drive and talent otherwise I suspect he will be in a cycle where he keeps ending up in shelters or worse, is stuck in a backyard and forgotten.

Please, if you know anyone in the market, send them my way. We're willing to work with people.

His name is Jayden and you can see him here:

Serioulsy, if you know ANYONE PM me.

Paige

Paige I forwarded the post to a friend who runs labs in Agility. She is on a lot of message boards and things with Labs, maybe something will turn up.

How bad are his hips? If he has HD ....depending on the severity...would agility and flyball be a big concern with regards to the hips?

Obed dog..rally dog for sure?

I think, and I would have to double check this, it's very mild. I don't think agility would be a huge problem, especially if someone was aware and was really proactive.

Obed and rally for sure.

Have you considered "donating" him to a service organization? Loving Paws (San Diego) and the SF Humane society hearing dog program take shelter dogs. His drive could be used for service or hearing dog work. He's really cute!

What is the latest situation with this dog? Where is he located?

Have you looked into your local labrador specific rescue groups? Some golden retriever rescues will also help out labs.

I'm 99% sure the SAR place won't take him. (not 100% sure yet, my bosses were out of town for a few days)

He's not in danger of being euth'd so lab/golden rescue won't take him. I just want him to go somewhere that can use his drive, ya know?

He's in southern California, and he's still available.

I am working with a guy that is dying for a lab - he's a runner. He is in the process of finding a place that takes dogs so I am going to show him this guy. He also wants a bike buddy. Keep your fingers crossed.

I *almost* forgot to tell you guys some great news:

Jayden got a job as a drug/bomb detection dog!! He will be working in LA county schools bustin' kids for crack, etc and working at places like the Getty, LACMA and other large venues (concerts, etc) for sniffin' the bombs.

The guy said he'd send us a letter when Jayden busted his first kid for drugs, LOL!

We're very happy that we were able to find somewhere that can use his brilliance and oh-so-annoying-drive!
