It's raining Labs!!!

There are currently two labrador retrievers with interesting circumstances who need homes at the clinic where I work.

Lab #1 is a gorgeous 4 year old chocolate female who was seized from a neglect situation a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the people who took responsibility for her afterward didn't bother to do any sort of temperment evaluation on her, or any screening of potential adopters. As a result, she was placed, and returned, due to an aggressive encounter with another dog. Next time, she was placed in a home with-out another dog. Unfortunately, this home was a farm where the people just let her roam, and she had another encounter with a person walking their leashed dog past the property (no serious injuries). After this, the orgaization decided they didn't want to deal with her anymore, and brought her to the clinic for euthanasia.

She is a very sweet dog, very people oriented, very food motivated. She does well with all types of handling, and is adjusting very well to her gentle leader head-collar. We've been working with her a little (not a lot of time) and feel that she had a lot of potential. With the gentle leader and food, she is very easy to redirect. This morning, I didn't have a lot of time, so I just took her for a quick walk to potty, with-out and food or her gentle leader. Sure enough, another dog appeared. All I had to do was call her name and she turned away and walked with me the other way. She is a very special dog, and I don't want to see her euthaized, but her time at the clinic is running out and all of the rescues I contacted were either full, or didn't have a dog-free foster home. I want to reiterate, she is not aggressive at all to people, just other dogs.

Lab #2 is a 4 year old black male who broke his chain and went wandering into a neighbor's yard. The neighbor wasn't happy about that, and started beating the dog with a broom handle. The dog bit in self-defense, and now the owners want to give him up. They said they'd keep him until his rabies quarantine was up, but after that would surrender him to a humane society. I'm a little concerned about what would happen to him there, with a bite history. He's a nice dog, knows sit and shake, likes other animals and people, has lived with children, just a happy, goofy guy who, understandably, didn't appreciate being attacked by a big guy with a broom. He's huge, big blocky head, a very handsome, sweet guy.

If anyone has any options for these guys, please contact me at rhein4613@charter.net. Unfortunately, I've not been given a lot of time here, so the situation is urgent. Thanks.
